Favorites and all is fine, but a corrupt match-fixing captain in a "liked" cricketer thread?  come on now.  

 

Also, don't misunderestimate Siva's bowling.  He won us the World Series of cricket in 1984-85.  Sure Shastri got the Audi, but Siva was a quality leggie, the likes of which we haven't had since the 70s.  Kumble was great, but not a big spinner of the ball.   Siva at his best, could make quality players of spin, look foolish.

 

 He's an annoying git as a commie, but for a couple of years there, he was a real good bowler.  I view him and Sadanand Vishwanath in the same category as Pravin Amre - lost boys of Indian Cricket - could have done a lot more if a few things had turned out differently.

Siva could have been one of our best spinners  ever if he had focus and disciple as a young man. 

 

He was one of the biggest spinners of the ball I have ever seen from India and did not need a turning track to display his art.  Had good control for a young wrist-spinner too.

Nice team.  I forgot about Yuvi.  Do enjoy watching his batting when in flow.  His cover drive very "crown princey".   I think Klusener would just be an OK-ish batting allrounder in modern day ODI cricket - He was ahead of his time back then, today he would just be one among many hitters.

Siva is a typical example of prodigies - most of them who hit great heights very young in their careers, tend to fizzle out.  That's one of the many reasons why Tendy is so damn special.  He was a prodigy who kept working and actually fulfilled his potential.  Most don't.

Hansie Cronje is forever disgraced and yes as  cricket fans he has betrayed us. we seem to forget that Cronje was one of the most innovative captains to ever grace the cricket field and during his reign,South Africa was the most exciting cricket team in the world. As a cricketer-purely on-field I was really a big fan....Yes don't respect him for what he did.

 

Same thing with Azhar...probably the biggest betrayal I ever felt but that doesn't take away that he was one of the best batsman of all time to watch when in full flow.

 

Hansie would have been in my XI if he was not caught or never fixed games but that is just a tribute to him as he was a favorite of mine in my younger days.

 

Similarly,not a fan of Tableeghi Jamat or whatever that is called that Anwar leads-The hardcore Islamic sect but I was a big fan of his batting.

Klusener could do it under huge pressure,plus was a decent pacer and a fielder.

Kluesner when he started was way quicker than Pollock and almost as quick as Donald....just didn't have the skills to be a top line test bowler...even though has a very good ODI record as a bowler.
