Kohli specifically asked Pujara to up his SR and not get bogged down.

The issue isn’t about Pujara’s strike-rate anymore,It is about making demands on a player who bats at a vital position for the Indian team, that too at a particular time when he was struggling previously to convert his starts. And then, eventually, it is about his response to the said demand

He use to bat at good strike rate in India before as well

Up until the Australian series in 2014, Pujara had a better strike rate than Kohli and Rohit.

he is still getting 30 of 80 balls as was getting in england and australia but now he is converting those to big scores, thats when his strike rate improves.

Pujara's strike rates - Overall:

India - 53.65

Away - 41.77

In 2016:

India - 53.32

Away - 27.43

In this series so far: 58.52

He's always had a good enough strike rate for test cricket. Had a particularly slow series in the west indies where he struck at 27, but the sample is small - he batted just two innings. Apart from that, he seems to have done quite well with the strike rate. Yes, he could improve a wee bit away, but I wouldn't fret about it.

Even Kohli's overall strike rate is just 54.02. I feel the team management should get off Pujara's back and let him play his game.

I don't think the issue ever was about SR.

 

It was about Pujara getting unusually bogged down while playing outside Asia and not putting away even the bad deliveries......and that put a lot of pressure on him.  He then got out as a result after scoring 20s, 30s and 40s..

 

In India, he has played at  standard SR ....nothing really high......but has never looked under pressure. He has always put the bad balls away and always looked in control of his innings. That is what is important in test matches.

Before getting dropped his SR in India was 55 in 13 tests.

 

After WI tour it's 53 in India.
