John Reid...who ever that is ...was the worst in this case. Worst bowled/innings ratio. With others I think its just the number of Innings they have played. But getting bowled once every 3 innings for a long time is quite rare. Anyways nice video CB1.

Thanks sourab! Glad you enjoyed it.

Reid's bowled/inns ratio is 2.45 which may give an impression that he was not a very capable batsmen, but the fact is that he was a very good batsman (though his ave is not high), a genuine allrounder, powerful hitter and a great fieldsman, thus in every sense a captain's delight. Guess, he was NZ's first genuine allrounder before Richard Hadlee.

Not questioning his skills..

Just saying that he is the worst in case of bowled/innings

Would have done better in ODIs was the general idea.

A little surprised to see Gundappa Viswanath's bowled ratio too. He was thought of as technically very sound and even Gavaskar admired his technique.

No, he wasn't as technically sound as Sunny, Dravid, Merchant, etc. Look at Vishy's home and away record. In fact, if someone only looked at stats (and not actual play), they would conclude that Vishy was HTB (which is not the full truth of course).

Considering he was highly respected by opponents as well as teammates, for me too it was a surprise to see his name in this list.

Whatever I have read or heard of home is contrary to what you are saying. His ave against Aus & WI is above 50 which I believe wouldn't have been possible if he wasn't technically very sound. Remember, those were the days when Aus & Windies had the best all time pace attacks.

You should look at Vishy's record outside India. Averaged 46 in Aus (very good), 39 in Eng (so-so given Eng's attack was not always good), 35 in WI (abg) and less than 30 in NZ and Pak (Pak had a solid attack). He played top notch attacks better in India than outside India.

Besides, I never meant that he's completely unsound or anything - just that he's not in the same level as a Gavaskar in terms of technical soundness.

Vijy, thanks for sharing the details. Whatever, I know of him is through reading/listening to greats on TV/Internet. And, so far have only heard praises for him from players all over the world.

His 97 run knock against a dominant West Indian bowling line-up in 1975, found a mention at the 38th spot in Wisden's list of greatest batting knocks in Test cricket. Must have been an exhibition for sure.

Sharing links to a few interesting articles about him:
