I agree with the selections you proposed, but I wonder if Nair now has the momentum to challenge either Rahane or Pujara's spot in the team, when playing 5 batsmen only. We know Virat is willing to drop even performing players like Vijay, as he did earlier, to seize the advantage. express bowling 1

If we look at rough weaknesses among our top 5 batters Pujara -- Outside Asia Rahane-- In India Kohli -- In England Vijay and Rahul -- Not consistent enough Kohli is safe as he is the captain. There could be a case for horses for courses policy too among the other batters, with Parthiv opening if an opener is temporarily dropped. Karun could replace the weakest batter in a certain condition. Then again...Karun himself is an unknown entity outside Asia and the fact that he failed on the last A tour to Australia does not strengthen his case as of today when we travel. Nevertheless....I will pick Karun against Bangladesh dropping any one batter in the process. Edited December 19, 2016 by express bowling Tibarn 1
Ankit_sharma03 Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 There is Enough space on bench, unless someone else also makes use of the opportunities. He might feel alone as his ODi opening partner Dhawan and his Biryani hogging partner Mishra wont be there. But him being on bench is a good thing as it ll keep pushing Pujara n Nair to do well and work on their fitness and another aspect as well. Coz they know Kohli loves him and would look for a chance to get him back in 11. So they wont have a window of bad perfomances for long. He can be the scarecrow of Indian Cricket......

What if the scarecrow leaves his position outside and enters the " house " like in a horror movie ? Edited December 19, 2016 by express bowling

It seems that Batsmen need more stability in a team than bowlers. Ideally, we could have horses for courses with our pool of batsmen: Kohli*, Rahane, Pujara, Rahul, Vijay, Nair, Rahul, Pandey, Rohit, Dhawan, and any others, who could all compete for spots, with the competition driving them all to get better, but, for young batsmen especially like Nair and Rahul, they would probably require consistent matches to properly develop. The more longtime batsmen have to work on their own, with their coaches, like Rahane should with Amre to improve batting in India. Pujara should forego the IPL, he clearly is unwanted, with even Gujarat Lions not making a bid for him. If he can play full seasons in county, even if it is a lower tier, that would be great for us. express bowling 1

You are right. Ideally, a horses for courses policy should be avoided for batsmen or even bowlers who are all condition players or have the ability and temperament to improve and become so. This policy is only for 2 test series or so, so that the new triple centurion gets a few games to show what he has to offer to the team. Karun's ability to play quickly, without taking too much risk, can be a big asset in test matches. Tibarn 1
Vilander Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 (edited) If Rohit stops being lazy he could get back to playing for India..but he appears too lazy thats the problem. Lazy.. #lazyrohit Edited December 20, 2016 by Vilander
