So the selector said all that and didnt tell who were they planning to make test captain like he did for ODIs? “Mohinder Amarnath and Narendra Hirwani (then selectors from North Zone and Central Zone respectively) had accompanied the team Down Under and upon their return they reported that there were several factions within the team. Team spirit had hit rock bottom. We wanted someone who could restore unity in the team. Virat was our choice, for he was not into any faction and had also brilliantly led North Zone to the 2010-11 Deodhar Trophy title. Before that he had impressed as the captain of India Under-19 team.” tweaker 1

I said he was about to be sacked as captain in a selection committee meeting when Srinivasan intervened. An excerpt from an article -- “ Venkat also claimed that team spirit had hit rock bottom in Australia as a result of the losses and that Amarnath and Hirwani, who were in Australia with the team, came back and reported that there were multiple factions in the side at this point. The selector’s solution was to appoint Virat Kohli, who had made his Test debut earlier that year, as captain “We wanted someone who could restore unity in the team,” Venkat said. “We had unanimously decided to bring in a new captain. We believed Dhoni’s time was up and Virat should take over,” http://www.firstpost.com/sports/n-srinivasan-saved-dhoni-from-being-sacked-as-captain-in-2012-former-selector-raja-venkat-2292724.html Edited January 14, 2017 by express bowling tweaker and Mosher 2
beetle Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Don't agree with Dhoni. We need at least two captains. If Dhoni did not believe in split captaincy, then he should have left earlier. This is like spoiling it for others.....like batting your chance and then walking away with the common team bat. I hope the selectors don't give his words too much importance and soon realize that burdening Virat with all three forms is going to hurt . We should have a separate T -20 captain with a specialist T-20 team.A new captain with no baggage. express bowling, jalebi_bhai, MCcricket and 1 other 4
