Creation of 2 Power Centers:Will Dhoni's presence in team make it difficult for Virat to captain the team?

MSD is the most successful Indian captain. He has won every ICC trophy there is to win and is widely considered as one of the best LOI captains of all time. Now he has stepped down but remains in the team. Will his shadow loom large over the team and make it difficult for Virat to really take hold of the team and run it as he wishes. Will it create two power centers in the team?

Dhoni was captain for 9 years.Longest in recent memory.

Dhoni doesn't have much cricket in him.Even if he plays really well the most he will have is till 2019 WC .

Hence the chances are remote.Otherwise would have been a real possibility.

This is not the first time something like this is happening in India cricket. Dhoni had to lead a senior middle order. Sourav took over captaincy during a very difficult time and in true dada style his exit was equally controversial. If one were to  back and dig old threads i bet you would find similarities between whats written about Dhoni today to what was written about Sourav back then.  Infact whats written about Dhoni today is what will be written about Kohli 5-6 yrs from now. Going back a bit further Azhar a mild individual had to lead the likes of Kapil and Ravi.

... and amid all of this in true Indian style, usually come a batting genius and this time its given us a 17 yrs old prithivi shaw.

Nope. The only thing that was keeping Dhoni relevant was his captaincy, now that the selectors SACKED him he might as well take an early retirement because seeing his batting form he's not going to survive much longer with in the team. He will be eventually tossed out.

if MSD wanted the power, he wouldnt have resigned, would he? And Dhoni and Kohli have immense respect for each other. Dhoni has already made a statement saying Kohli can win more matches than him. Kohli has made a statement saying that he is going to take advice from Dhoni

I think one thing we havent had in the team for a long time, is power struggles. We just dont have that culture

Let me remind the people here that after 2015 WC India has won only 7 ODIs and lost 11.So MSD was on thin ice.

Thats too simplistic. We have been playing a depleted squad since then.Ash,Jaddu and Shami havent played at all AFAIK in home ODIs.because they were needed in Tests more

Our premier spinner was Mishra lol.We saw how he went under even Kohli despite having Ash/Jaddu for company

Don't think team performances were such a huge issue.Kohli just had to take over once the experiments ended

We lost series to SA/AUS/BD with a full squad.
