Its baffling to see that no media outlet is willing to cover this issue. Had it been the case with Australian and English boards, their media would've ripped them apart by now.

Hahahaha.

The Aussies and English media don't rip apart their own selection committee inspite of the fact that the selection process there is a joke.

England playing bits and pieces cricketers in the test matches to Australia's unwavering faith in Mitch Marsh and selecting a ridiculous bowling attack in the south African series are just two of the very latest examples of their selection committee messing up very badly. If you want to go before that time period, then just look at the squad England's team in the WC 2015.

I really wonder do you guys even watch cricket or not? I've seen many English and Aussies fans on reddit absolutely slamming their selection committee and yet it's revered as anything on this forum.

Clear case of the grass is greener on the other side.

both Aaron and Umesh are hopeless cases.

Umesh has got his chances to play. But Aaron has hardly played much. He has never got a consistent run. So that is a pretty harsh judgement of Aaron.

Aaron hasn't played much domestic cricket either. It would help if he didn't keep breaking down. Whatever the reason, though, he doesn't inspire a lot of hope.

Even when he was not injured, he never got a consistent run. Selected for one match dropped for the next match. This approach will not help anyone. Once a player is selected give him a few matches on the trot, give him the confidence and see how he performs and then take a call.

he has played just 4 ODIs since his come back against NZ in 2013 but it is more about confidence. If he was  not injured this season, he might have grabbed some chances to play.

No discussion. In full agreement with op. Felt exactly same watching Jadhav. Infact got the feeling that there might be few equal if not better than Kohli in demotivating domestic league

No one really stands out as particularly unfortunate not to have played more. If players who have played 1-10 matches don't appear too unfortunate, I somehow doubt there are too many players who played zero matches who have been screwed.  Sooner or later the deserving ones will get their chance.

Pant scored a triple hundred in just few outings. He was lucky on couple of occasions during that inning. Skill maters but Cricket is also game of confidence. Captain and selectors can demotivate a player at will. They can easily screw a player, even if he performs. as a example, Mishra who has been top bowler for us in limited over cricket  was asked to bowl in test match then dropped from limited overs on test match performance. Same is happening with Kuldeep Yadav.

Pankaj Singh should have been picked 5 years back, he has the skills, pace, attitude but we were stuck on Ishant, RP, Aravind, VK sadly.

Selection should be a balanced approach n there should be a vision plan and any good team has to have some good youngsters and this will keep the bench n talent coming rather then drying up, Indian selectors have been very conservative, so was ex captain and did not have a fixed path of selection, also A team selection n ROI teams are feeders so important.

Take any good team , you will see young talent being introduced, that can be based on potential .

For a pacer a min PACE is required at int level so 80% of domestic bowlers bowling around 120 to 130 are useless, A team should have guys like Sarfaraz, Pant, Nathu, Aniket, Ankit, Ishaan, see how Australia has made a quick comeback n so do NZ based on their backs!IMG young talent.

Pankaj Singh was selected and given chance in England in 2014 where he did not do well. Before 2014 he was a genuine trundler bowling below 130 Ks, so was given chance only after he improved his pace to about 135 Ks. So can't really fault the selectors in that regard.

Pankaj is bowling at his best this season only.

He looked really impressive in the Duleep Trophy few moths back and looked good today too.

In England 2014, he was losing steam after his first spell...... which is not happening this season

Can't really fault the selectors in his case.....

Sadly, he is 31 when he is looking international class

check this video from 2012 ,bowling over 130,he touched 140 even on his odi debut in zim in 2010 ,

Yes, he did bowl 130 k to 140 k spells  6 years back too

But, the issue with him was that he was losing steam and bowling much slower as the day progressed. This was the biggest issue with him in England.   He has rectified this issue this season.   Another issue he had in 2010, which he rectified around 2013, was inability to hit the deck hard.

it's all due to lack of confidence and understanding in our system of how to be a successful quicker pacer or develop them , otherwise he could have developed quicker, but now he is lost, may be can play the odd series or two if needed.

Can't argue with that.

It still exists before pacers are selected for A teams.  A talent like Nathu Singh is being ignored and Ranji Trophy stats have become the most important factor.

Pacers who have the potential to represent India need to be identified early and developed with special attention and care.

This guy debuted in 2004 and till around 2011/12 he was much slower. In this 2012 interview he himself acknowledges that he is bowling at 130 - 135 Ks and trying to improve his pace : http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/ranji-trophy/I-have-learnt-to-plan-to-get-a-batsman-out-Pankaj-Singh/articleshow/11487065.cms

Even in the video you showed he bowled 130 to 135 Ks, with slowest being 129 K and fastest 136 K. Also in this innings Rajasthan hardly bowled 75 overs, so he did not have to bowl long spells. It was when bowling later in the day and long spells that he used to drop even slower. It was from 2013 onwards that he started improving his pace and could consistently bowl above 135 Ks.

2011 - 2013 was also the period when Zaheer was a regular and India was investing in the likes of Umesh, Ishant, etc. who were much pacier. Also there was the issue between BCCI and Rajasthan Cricket Association which meant he had a slightly delayed entry.

There are some players who are domestic legends like Vinay Kumar, Ashok Dinda, Pankaj Singh (pacers), Wasim Jaffer, Subramaniam Badrinath (batsmen), etc. who do not have that extra something that makes them an International prospect. All these were given chances, maybe some got late chances but they could not perform upto expectations in those chances.

One should remember that there are only 11 players that can be selected in Indian team from a pool of more than 250 domestic players. So you need to bang the door really hard and prove yourselves when given a chance. Else the next one in queue will overtake you.

I am not saying the selectors are doing doing their job perfectly. But it is in the player's hands to make sure that they keep improving and make the most of opportunities presented to them.

You are wrong there, Pankaj always bowled around 130s, but under M Pringle the SA coach for Rajasthan, the bowlers improved pace n fitness further, this was 5 to 6 years back and he started bowling around 133 to 142 k.

When he made debut he bowled well, and numerous catches were dropped, have you seen the game ? Also any player deserves a good run, atleast 5 to 10 games unless he is pathetic.Pankaj had bowled very well in first test and was unlucky because of poor fielding, also the commentary team liked what the saw, second test he was average, but def better then the VK, Aravind, BK in test.

He is one bowler who could be far better then Ishant, has been the top pacer for years in domestic, gets movement, bounce, and is fit.

Md. Siraj got a chance in Irani Trophy now. Pankaj Singh, and S. Kaul have taken 4 each and out bowling Md. Siraj. Of course, it is just one game, and more chances need to be given to Siraj. But when you have a high profile domestic match, it would help if they make a bigger visible impact for Siraj and others like him. You need to be able to get Gujju batsmen out on such pitches.

I watched the full series and even went to the ground for one of the matches as I am in the UK. There was only one drop off his bowling in the 1st test in Southampton (Jadeja dropped Cook). Drops happen quite often with Indian slip fielders it's not as if he was the only bowler whose catch was dropped. He ended with 0 for 179 in the 1st test where you said he bowled well. In comparison Bhuvi got 4 wickets, so was no way bad than him. In 2nd test he picked 2 wickets for 113 and Bhuvi picked 3 for 75, so again no way he was bad than Pankaj Singh.

Also seeing his bowling he was not hitting the deck hard and was not able to bowl an effective short ball in both tests. He was just floating the ball without hitting the deck hard. We already have a floaty bowler in Bhuvi.
