Ok.....maybe horses for courses he didn't get a shot then... because as shown with Krunal and Rana,it wasn't like Ponting was totally against trying younger or unknown talent. Dnt care much about ipl but he shud have gotten into SMA squad......but again we have seen weird selections. Malinga was injured I think for most season...they had Southee and Mcclenaghan in the bowling dept. Bumrah would be the natural choice as 3rd....they also had Pollard,Anderson if they played to be 3rd seamers,Also H.Pandya was there...so maybe not a chance for Nathu...but should have been tried like Rana and Krunal.
