Masquerade
Iyer is still only 22. Most of our bats are 28 or over now. So, even if worst comes to worst for Iyer, he can still make a debut by 27-28. And that's the worst case scenario. It's even better for Pant and Kishan because Saha is almost 33. They have about 3 years to really develop in first class cricket IF needed. The he unlucky guys are those who are already 25/26 and are performing in Ranji matches. By the time our current core get old and retire, it will be too late for them. express bowling 1 Link to comment

Lannister
I am still not sure about Pujara's abilities to perform overseas. Iyer should come in as a back-up player. Rahul, Iyer, Nair along with Kohli and Rahane are our future prospects for the Test cricket. Link to comment

Iyer is top order bat, so can be tried as opener. doesnt have a good enough technique to open. He should not even bat even at 3, at best 5-6. Link to comment

He struggled in certain places but then also scored against quality attacks overseas in South Africa. Nearest big overseas tour is less than a year away. I am talking about South Africa. Until that tour I will keep at least our 3-4-5 as Pujara-Kohli-Rahane. After that tour we can assess how all the test players are doing. By then all Rahul and co would have also gotten decent chance since they would have played the Sl test series which is also away later this year. We shouldn't try to make too many extreme changes in our test squad before South Africa tour in terms of batting order. Link to comment

Many said the same about Karthik but he did brilliant for us in 2007 tour in England. He and Jaffer both gave us crucial starts during that series and played important part in helping us win the series in England for the first time in a long time. Iyer can be tried if needed. rkt.india
Pandya bats with very hard hands and plays in very premeditated manner. Edited February 19, 2017 by rkt.india Link to comment

Is iyer's defense not good enough ? in that case he cannot succeed even in middle order . where you think he needs to improve to be in international class player. Is it he 1. Plays pre -meditated shots ? 2. Plays too many arial shots from the start? 3. Plays away from body too much in his offside play ? Link to comment
