M.Vijay in Australia

Whatever limited batting success India had in England was mostly down to some gritty innings from the likes of Rahane and the surprising confidence our bowlers showed with a bat in hand. But the primary reason has to be the stability Vijay has bought to the side as an opener. His ability to anchor the innings and create a foundation has helped batsmen who follow, especially compared to the hapless openers we had in the previous tour!! He was'nt the quickest scorer and absorbed as many balls as Rohit Sharma would do in most ODIs :--D, also he struggled with concentration after breaks or seems edgy when nearing any milestone. But he was very very good at seeing of the first spells of Anderson/Broad and blunting the new ball. Killing the opposition and spectators with boredom seems to be the speciality, but effective nonetheless. Vijay is a cocky and confident player once set, which also makes him annoying to watch. But the guy seems disenfranchised by sledging, stares, wickets falling around him etc...etc... So the big question is how he will fare in Australia?! He will be facing far quicker bowlers like Johnson and Pattinson. Vijay's game has been built around leaving balls he doesn't or cant play. It will be interesting to find out what he does when a quicker ball is aimed at his body. There is no doubt that Aus will have a plan for him and they will try and deliver that body blow any which way possible. Neither do I have much faith in Dhawan at the moment nor the replacements for him. So a lot hangs on Vijay's shoulders, we'll see what happens!

Great judge of off stump. Probably the best in our side. But he does not make the most of it. If he needs a template Alistair cook is the one. He also plays like that with excessive caution . Once bowlers are worn he capitalizes on it. Atleast it was working for him for a long time. He could amass runs even with technical glitches because of that.

Vijay doesnt have a great backfoot game, so, his scoring areas are limited. Cook scores a lot on backfoot even if ball isn't pitched too short and is less risky too. Front foot strokes bring more risk of edging behind.

Usual bs at Vijay. No matter what he does some will still have doubts have apprehensions will not be sold on him will be slowly trusting him will think he will be found out...then when he does well they Will first say pitch was road then realise other bats did not do well then when rahane emulates him they will call him next great whilst comfortably forgetting Vijay did the same..the ways of Indian cricket fan.

exactly, the guy has been solid ever since he made his comeback. He has now batted well in SA,NZ and Eng. Dhawan and not Vijay is whom we should be worried about.

Ever since i saw him in England, i have started respecting him......Having said this, i am not ruling out is technique
