Number
What is political about it ? For every country its freedom fighters are special and they invoke passion for the country. Its quite natural for sportsmen to remember them in the times of big achievement for the country as they are the ones who dreamt of that nation first and fought for it. Unless you have guilt complex like some Pakistanis you should be okay with this statement. Link to comment

urbestfriend
If he had said this after winning the tournament, or achieving some target like SF, it would have made sense...Not after winning a league game.. Link to comment
youngindia
Which freedom fighters..? They won aginst Eng? so 1947 freedom struggle.. not a chance in hell. why do ppl have to speculate on topics they know nothing about? for Bangladeshis, 1971 is the phase very close to their heart...not 1947 as for us! what "freedom struggle" in 1947? the muslim league at best were british imperialist allies and stooges...they do not have a single major agitation against the british to speak of.. they only launched direct action to demonstrate they can plunge the country in to chaos if the league demands are not met and their chief concern was extracting concessions from the congress party-not the british Link to comment
Lannister
Sometimes I wonder even though Bangladesh is a muslim country, they are such a peaceful people. Good on 'em. Anyways congrats for the win. Link to comment

Biggest ever for them. There were lot at stake an there was great anticipation about this match. Lot of build up. So some of this is justified. Link to comment
