I am watching these matches. They aree being tonked for runs. High economy rate, hardly any wickets. Please check the stats as well.

It is not all about stats. Most fast bowlers have gone for runs on these pitches. Even Malinga has gone for 50 plus runs twice in a row. This was Thampi's 20th over yesterday. Thampi and Siraj both got some easy catches dropped too. These two have been very impressive for such inexperienced guys. They have shown the tools they have good yorkers, bouncers and slower balls.

19.1

Basil Thampi to Pandey, no run, superb bowling. See him try to make room, follows him and gets the yorker to land right next to his toe. He can't get bat on this

19.2

Basil Thampi to Pandey, FOUR, hangs deep in the crease, gets a full toss at off stump, uses the room to slash this through point and find the boundary

19.3

Basil Thampi to Pandey, OUT, gone. Thampi gets his man in the end. Had him struggling all through with that yorker and he beats him this time. Takes out off stump with a deflection off the pads

MK Pandey b Basil Thampi 24 (38m 21b 2x4 0x6) SR: 114.28

19.4

Basil Thampi to SA Yadav, 1 run, brave shot, but only one. This is another yorker, tailing in at leg stump, he goes for the reverse sweep but can't connect. Hits it straight to short third man

19.5

Basil Thampi to Pathan, 1 run, OUT, yorker at off stump, hammered back past the bowler, straight to long-off. Yadav was looking to come back fot the second, but Yusuf had his back turned to the fielder. Poor running technique. He doesn't respond to his partner either. McCullum lobs it to the strikers end where Karthik collects it a little wide of the pitch, takes a a stride to his right and breaks the stumps with an over-arm throw before Yadav can return from his trip to halfway-down

SA Yadav run out 1 (2m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

19.6

Basil Thampi to Shakib Al Hasan, 1 run, slower ball, yorker length, wide of off stump. He can only slice this to backward point with no timing

Thampi - 17 overs, 151 runs,2 wicket, eco 8.88
Siraj - 8 overs, 81 runs, 2 wickets, eco 9.71

Crap bowling imo. This is the stats which only a part time bowler will be proud of.

Yes they bowled few yorkers and some good balls (they are expected to as they are specialist bowlers), but they have flopped so far. Still a long tournament to make a comeback though.

If they continue to improve, I will be surprised if Thampi or Siraj dont make it into India ODI X1 within the next few years. They have impressive qualities. Good pace, yorkers, slower deliveries, good control. In IPL, all bowlers will go for runs because of flat pitches, small grounds and batsmen have license to go for shots. But you can still see some bowlers stand out among others because they have the right qualities.

A batsman hits few cover drives and wow what promise, never mind if they get out for 10 runs every innings. Never mind the batsmen is incapable of finding gaps and scoring runs. A bowler bowls few yorkers and gets tonked hardly taking any wickets and that becomes an awesome performance. Who cares about wickets and runs nowadays.

These guys are rookies playing their 1st season of IPL and you want them to be ready made products/world beaters? Important thing now should be to look at whether they have the tools required to succeed. They will learn and improve as they play more games at this level.

I just said they have flopped. I don't expect these rookies to be world beaters, obviously it is clear that they will need time to step up to next level. But the teams cannot afford flop performances. There is a fine trade off between giving few matches to rookies and how much teams can afford to lose IPL matches.  Yes, they will learn and improve from the mistakes they have done. The sooner the better.

Both are very impressive.

One of them can be picked for champions trophy too.

At least one selected will improve fast.

The guys have potential ..both can bowl 140 to 145k.

They have ingredients to play for India.

Lil proper training and they will compete with umesh and shammi.

Thampi and Siraj are very young...will become faster and more skillfull too.
