maniac Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 On One hand I believe England and South Africa cricketers will miss part of the IPL season due to international commitments. I think same case with New zealand and Bangladesh cricketers. On the other hand Carlos Brathwaite,Kieron Pollard,Narine,Badree etc are going to skip the ODI series against Pak to play in the IPL? especially when his team is on the verge of playing in the qualifiers. As much as I like what WI cricketers bring to the IPL....I mean surely WICB is pathetic to let this happen.
sandeep Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 West Indies made their players take a pay cut to increase salaries at the domestic level. 80% of income for West Indies players comes from Franchise leagues, not their national contract. Smarter boards like NZ recognize this and plan their games around the IPL schedule. WICB is run by incompetent "executives" with a CEO complex. Shameless board even tried to get the South African board to pay them for a "No Objection Certificate", but it was shot down. By the way, little known fact, the evil BCCI and evil IPL actually pays a percentage of player contracts to the players' 'home' board - thereby sharing the IPL wealth with its fellow ICC members. sscomp32 and Ironhide 2
LordPrabhzy Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 West Indies are a rubbish team when it comes to International matches --->much less interest from fans--> not much money offered through TV rights to WICB---> they do not have much to spend on salaries to pay their stars ---> the stars end up playing in T20 leagues around the globe as mercenaries to make a living----> due to this WICB end up fielding a team of 2nd string players who are not yet international level.( see point 1) Its a vicious cycle. I have a prediction that West Indies as a team will cease to exist in the next 7-10 years and most of the players on the Islands will become T20 specialists.
Iconoclast Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Carlos and Pollard shouldn't even be in their team. Narine is nothing without pelting. Badree is a T20 specialist.
BeautifulGame Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 They aren't skipping International cricket to play IPL. WICB has a stupid rule that only if they play in their domestic competition of respective format, they will be considered for international cricket in that format. All the WI players play WI T20 league so they are picked for T20Internationals . But most of the skip their domestic One day and FC completions as it clashes with Big bash league . Hence the likes of Pollard and Narine aren't picked. I think Braithwaite has been dropped from ODI team for poor performance. Ironhide, moniker, sscomp32 and 1 other 4
Ultimate_Game Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 It's an unfortunate situation and you can't really blame WICB. The WICB contract amount is so low that the major WI stars don't sign the contracts and thus can pick and choose the series they want to play. WICB can't do anything about it as they can't financially compete against IPL. The best option would be for WICB to work with BCCI to make sure WICB align their home season with IPL. What's the point in scheduling a tour when most of your stars will miss leading to more friction amongst the board, players and the fans?
maniac Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 It's not about player A or B...Surely WICB is not the poorest board out there....If this was just another random bilateral series, sure WICB and the players can have their politics but a loss here may correct me if I am wrong result in WI playing the qualifier. Now in what way does it benefit the WICB or even the players for the matter of fact. I am pretty sure there are at times players from associates who are better than some of the random Aussie and Porteas players who get IPL contracts at times.if WI standing goes down further than that day may soon come as well....I mean isn't that just common sense. Also CPL is a success...does it anyway benefit WICB? Sure they can work something out with the 14-15 best players in their group of islands. forget IPL mercenaries...I think even the likes of Bravo jr who is neither a IPL star nor has been out of form is sitting out due to board disputes I think. i think lack of an actual patriotic incentive is a problem too . I mean don't think any other country be it Srilanka,Newzealand or even Bangladesh would let that happen. You can't blame the players as much...sure they have their issues but overall WICB needs a overhaul. Surprisingly even likes of Clive Lloyd couldn't run it efficiently to take them back to glory days.
speedheat Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Remember??? Ian bishop shouting remember the name remember the name on Carlos Barthwhite??? Instead he should have shouted remember the fluke remember the fluke!!!!!!!!!!!! barthwite and pollard are just garbage players, high quality hacks and nothing. West Indies is run by a very incompetent board and they are almost finished as cricketing nation , they need to split as fast as possible.

WICB is indeed one of the poorest boards out there. It may be better off than Zim board but that's about it. At best WICB may be able to compete with SLCB but not anyone else.
Pollack Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Even WI fans don't care. Why waste energy here in discussion?
Zero_Unit Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 There is a saying: take care of your employees and your employees will take care of you aswell. WICB gives zero Fu*k about thier employees hence gets no love in return.

maniac Posted April 6, 2017 Author Posted April 6, 2017 Even Malinga who is almost retired is playing a T20I against Bangladesh skipping the opening game for MI in the IPL

They simply aren't eligible to play due to WICB rule.

Do you know if they make money from CPL?..pretty sure CPL is a profitable league and WICB has to have some % from it and all these so called franchise players take part in it. Sure Money is a factor, but the issues with WICB and Players are about more than just money. WICB feels like they are high flying super CEOs, and the players should just line up and say "Yes, Master". Players feel that they are international "Super stars" and want a fatter paycheck. Ego on both sides, mutual feelings of "disrespect" on both sides. Not to get racial about it. But you know our brothers can't stand no "diss-respect". Whether they are track-suited cricketers, or suited up babu officials. For example, WICB gave their #1 test batsman a pay cut and then the WICB president tweets that his performance is "not good enough" and quoted false averages (lower than reality) to back up his point. I mean, you take money away from a guy, and then humiliate him publicly like that? There's no gray there - that WICB moron screwed up. Baby Bravo retaliated with a tweet calling him a big idiot and questioned his performance - and got suspended for his justified frustrated tweet. And the issue is still ongoing. So what if the Windies test team needs Darren's quality batting. maniac 1
