Thoughts on Manan Vohra

He had a good Ranji season this year. 

~650 runs with highest 224 @51. 

There are not many young batsmen we have who are opening regularly and performing well in IPL.

Best thing about him is he seems confident whenever he is the middle like KL Rahul.

Handles pace very well.

Needs to improve against spin I think.

Still 23 only so can be a very good prospect for opening slot.

Too inconsistent like the likes of Mandeep, Mayank Agarwal, Sanju Samson etc. They look good while playing shots, play an occasional blinder and then disappear. The key is consistency the way Manish Pandey is displaying. Consistency trumps "once in a blue moon" sort of performances.

He scores good looking 20s and 30s. 40 matches in IPL and just 3 scores of above 50. Yesterday also he was plumb lbw on 30 something but umpire made a howler.

 

Needs to be lot more consistent even though IPL is not really the place to judge consistency.

 

Btw I think it was Yuvraj last season who mentioned he will play for India soon.

Always looks circumspect against spinners but yesterday he played Rashid like no one has in this year's IPL.Hope he continues to improve though.

Sehwag thinks highly of him.  For whatever that's worth.  He publicly stated that he didn't want to impede Vohra's progress by playing another year or so which he easily could have - in the IPL.

Even yuvraj singh has always praised him highly. Feel he needs someone who guides him well and unfortunately i dnt see anyone in Punjab team. Hopefully next IPL he can play under Dhoni , dravid or kohli's team

Mandeep is a hack. Manan has a far better technique and way more talent

Mandeep is a hack. Manan has a fat better technique and way more talent 

Manan may or may not be a hack but he's too inconsistent. One innings in a blue moon doesn't change the fact. He has to be more consistent and show he can do it on a regular basis.

Yes there is no denying it that he is highly inconsistent , consistent hota to he was good enough to play for India or atleast India-A

Pandey was also inconsistent at 23

That's why he wasn't a regular in the team but should be now. If Vohra starts performing as well as Pandey he would be considered too. But so far Pandey has lot of performances whereas Vohra only has this one performance.

Same with Mandeep. Taking that next step and being consistent is the most difficult of all. So far only Pandey is showing he can do it.

Pandey is 28-29. He is 23.

He has the talent to play for sure , but he needs to sort his temperament abit first.

Most Young players will be inconsistent in t20s. Even Kohli found his t20 game after playing 5-6 years of IPL.

Yh out all young indian batsmen only Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan seem consistent.
