Nonsense. He is selected for the same reasons Yuvi and Raina kept on getting chances in test matches periodically. Selectors believe in Rahane and I am sure there is  Kohli's blessing. Do you have any proof of Mumbai lobby proof being involved. Any small hint. Just because few commentators are biased while commentating which has absolutely nothing to do with selection you cannot assume its Mumbai lobby. Why is kohli supporting Mumbai lobby ?We all know his love for Rohit in tests and now Rahane in ODIs. IS HE A PART OF THIS LOBBY? IF YES TOUGH LUCK.  More powers to this lobby. :aha::aha:

:facepalm:Blasphemy to compare rahane with yuvi and raina , raina and yuvi have been great players in the past, they have performed in odis, so one could understand that reasoning but what has rahane ever done to make the selectors believe in him? Rahanae has never been even a decent odi player, not even in domestics. On top of that he is in the worst form of his life, On what basis are the selectors believing in him? Do you have any proof that selectors believe in rahane and it is not mumbai lobby? Everything doesn't need proof, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that the mumbai lobby is rewarding rahane,  they really want him to succeed in all formats, even though he has never shown any ability for  the limited overs

You obviously know am not comparing them. You are wrong about Mumbai Lobby behind it. Anyway there is no point arguing because of your prejudice.

@kira  Have a look at this report. This was before the selection of squad. I am highlighting the relevant section regarding Ajinkya's selection.Like I said selectore are clueless but there is no regional nepotism.

CT 2017: Indian selectors mull squad selection; to opt for 3rd spinner or extra batsman

Choosing between a third spinner and an extra batsman will be the topic of discussion when the three-member national selection panel decides on the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy, starting 1 June in England.

While 13 of the 15 members are automatically selected, there could be a bit of discussion regarding a couple of places.

With KL Rahul out of contention, there is no debate that the two opening slots will be occupied by Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Both are experienced and have been an integral part of the 2013 Trophy winning team.

Skipper Virat Kohli comes in at the number three slot. Yuvraj Singh and Kedar Jadhav have also sealed their spots among the top five batsmen. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is expected to don the big gloves and is also the sixth batsman in the side.

Hardik Pandya has sealed his spot as an all-rounder and fifth seamer.

The seventh batsman's slot is expected to be taken by Manish Pandey. However, if the Indian team selects an eighth batsman, the choice will be between senior Ajinkya Rahane and rookie Rishabh Pant.

As of now, Rahane is ahead in the race with his experience in English conditions and possibly a tighter technique against top quality swing bowling, that India will face in Muhammed Aamir and Wahab Riaz at Birmingham in the lung opener against Pakistan.

Most teams tend to pick at least one in-form player in a tournament squad but the Ind selectors have selected an out-of-form and hopeless in the format Rahane instead.

Sends all tr wrong signals out to younger players when somebody as inept as Rahane is for dubious reasons selected ahead of in-form talents like Pant.

Pant not opening the innings for DD doesn't mean he can't open for India. No Rahane required. Keep Pant as backup opener. If India could shuffle openers in world cup as they did in 1996 or 1999, there is no reason they can't do that again in CT.

We actually reshuffled openers for all four world cups 1996,99,2003 and 2007 lol

Yup. Somebody like Pant instead of Rahane would've been perfect but we will see Rahane plod to a 48 ball 23 on a patta in England where the average score would be 320. Hell they could have gone with Raina who has a pretty decent record in England!
