Don't like Parthiv then fine someone else. Problem with Rohit is consistency, or lack thereof, and him going MIA in ICC tourneys. If Rohit fails this CT as well, IMO it would be better to get someone else to open. Rahul and Pandey should be fit and Pant needs to be fast tracked ASAP. Not sold on Pappu as he may get an odd 30 but a very poor wkt keeper.

Pappu has temperamental issues but he is not a bad batsman. In any case that was just an option suggested. Someone else would also be fine. Let's see how karthik does in CT if he gets a chance.

We already have likes of KL Rahul, Manish Pandey and Pant waiting in the wings. Maybe Krunal can be tried in place of Jadeja if Jadeja doesn't do much with the bat. You have to take stock and plan after every global tourney and target the next one. Problem with Pappu is that he doesn't get big scores. As a specialist batsman you have to be able to win the match on your own. In T20s a quickfire 30 is fine but not in odis. Quickfire 30s would be fine if he were to play as a wkt keeper but he isn't good there as well and drops way too many chances. Thus Pant is the logical option as he has shown he can play match winning innings at the top of the order in his u-19 days and he should be given the first shot at that slot instead of Pappu.

As for Harsha, Gavaskar, Manju and company, the very fact they want someone like Rahane in the team shows their understanding of the shorter format game.

That is for sure true and am not sure about the second part of who seriously argues that he is better than Virat! Inspite of being a mental midget (or maggi man as they say) and not as mentally capable as he was thought to be and definitely not fulfilling the promise with which he was held, Rohit Sharma is a charismatic cricketer who has the aura to attract crowds to the stadium. There is no doubt about it that even the starkest of his critic feels deep within that this might be the awesome(st) innings due today when he arrives and looks good at the crease. And that matters for cricket administrators or experts or some kind of fans!

I am pretty sure I have come across few posts in ICF when Rohit was in "form" some claiming he was a better batsmen . I clearly remember responding to few . Same with people I have met , only that lately you dont hear that much .
