Ultimate_Game Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 (edited) As I was watching the match yesterday I started thinking about what sort of combination we should go with once we have likes of KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Pant etc. available and it struck me that we have a pretty deep bench! Here are the list of players who could easily walk into the Pakistan team and were not playing in the Indian XI yesterday. I would expect a team made out of the following players to actually beat the current Pak CT team KL Rahul (better than any Pak batsman) Rishabh Pant (better than any Pak batsman and their wkt keeper Sarfaraz) Sanju Samson (should fit into the Pak team over the likes of Shehzad and Azhar Ali) Shreyas Iyer (should get into the Pak batting lineup) Manish Pandey (better than any Pak batsman) Suresh Raina (better than any Pak batsman) Nitish Rana (should fit into the Pak team) Robin Uthappa (better than most Pak batsman) Krunal Pandya (much better than Imad Wasim) Parthiv Patel (despite dropping catches should be an upgrade on Sarfaraz) Kuldeep Yadav (one of the the best spin prospects in the world) Vijay Shankar (probably would be Pak's best all-rounder and their best no. 3 batsman) R Ashwin (better than any Pak spinner) Yuzvendra Chahal (pretty handy spinner in shorter formats) Axar Patel (better than Imad Wasim) Mohammed Shami (better than any Pak seamer) Sandeep Sharma (better than Hasan Ali) Jaydev Unadkat (better than Wahab Riaz) Pardeep Sangwan (definitely looks much better than Wahab Riaz) Nathu Singh (didn't see him much but looks like a good find) In fact folks like Rahane and Rayudu whom I don't deem fit to be in India's 2nd XI would walk into the Pak XI! And as for Pak much vaunted pacers, I can truly say that likes of Sandeep and Unadkat would've been better than Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz y'day. So much for the padosi meat eating "phaast" bowlers Edited June 5, 2017 by Ultimate_Game

tweaker Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 If we take our selection committee in to consideration, the team of Gambhir, Raina, Harbhajan, Mishra, Nehra, Karthik, Rayuddu, Dhoni, Yuvraj is better than the current Pakistani team

Same is the case with Rahane and Rayudu in shorter formats. The list of players are the guys who should be able to contribute moving forward.
sandeep Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 (edited) Backup players are good, but why compare with Pak? That's such a low bar. Compare with better teams and players. Not the shambolic team that the greenbros have. I almost feel a bit sorry for them. I've said this earlier as well - if Uthappa or Parthiv were born a few miles west, they would have UAE khan type accumulated numbers. Parthiv >>>> 'aggressive' sarfraz. In any format of the game - whether its batting or 'keeping. Edited June 5, 2017 by sandeep Adi_91 1

Coz I thought about the bench strength in the context of yesterday's match, and started thinking which players would actually be better than the pathetic Pak ones. But obviously these players need to compete against the best to make it to Team India
express bowling Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 (edited) Bench strength and having proper back-ups, is an important issue and I would like to examine it without any comparison with other teams -- I will look for realistic back-ups, that is players who can have a realistic chance of being included in our ODI team if there are any injuries. Openers -- Rahul Rahane ( I don't like him for ODIs but he is in the scheme of things and we can't do anything about it ) Upper-middle order ( 3 and 4 ) -- Karthick Pandey Iyer Lower-middle order ( 5,6 ) -- Pant Raina Samson Keeper-batsmen -- Pant Samson Karthick Allrounders ( 7,8 and maybe 6 ) -- Shankar ( only other seamer-all-rounder who has been a part of our A Team ) ( can bat at 6 ) Krunal ( although there is no actual evidence to suggest that he is being considered as an actual backup ) Axar Pacers -- Shami Shardul No other pacer can be confirmed as an actual replacement candidate.... but Kumble has named Nathu Singh and Basil Thampi as the fast bowlers the team management is considering. Md.Siraj maybe a dark horse. Spinners -- Ashwin Kuldeep Mishra Chahal P.S - Almost all these players are either in the ODI squad or have been named as ODI backup or have played in LOIs in the near past or have played for our A Teams in the near past. Rahane at the top will simply do what Shehzad & Azhar Ali did for Pak y'day, i.e. finish off the match as soon as the chase begins.

As I said at the beginning of my post, this is a list of players who have a REALISTIC chance of being actual backup players in the very near future. It is NOT a list of what I want or what you want or what other fans want. We maynot want Rahane but he will play if one of the 2 openers are injured. sarchasm, sandeep and speedheat 3
MCcricket Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 The best n most dynamic player India has in limited over format not yet debuted is Sarfaraz Khan, hope to see him play for India soon Lord 1
Vilander Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 you can not consider Shami Ashwin they are in the first team although not in the 11.

Bench strength should mean players who are not in the current playing 11 Basically... players who may come in the playing 11 in case of injury or loss-of-form of those playing or change in playing conditions. speedheat and Ultimate_Game 2

He seems to be someone who has the X factor and doesn't shrink from pressure situations. Really liked him during his u-19 days and I hope he's able to perform and get into the Indian team. Would love to have him at no. 5 or no. 6 spot.
veer Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Our bench strength's benchmark is pak team?? People need to look to bigger team instead of declining one..
tweaker Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Sarfaraz has long way to go.Has a attitude problem & was not able to perform for UP side after changing the team from Mumbai. express bowling 1

And that's why I didn't list him in the OP as he needs to put up consistent performances to be considered. But I did like what I saw during his u-19 days and hope he starts performing.

Read the OP again. I was watching the Ind-Pak game and was struck how poor Pak team was and how India's bench warmers could actually beat them hence the comparison. of course you wouldn't set Pakistan as the benchmark for performance
