The Dark Horse Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Yuvraj should just read this sentence spoken by Dravid during his retirement for which he'll always stand tall above the rest of the legends IMO. "I came to this decision and when I came to it, I was very clear in my mind." It had, he said, been easy as it was difficult, that he had known "deep down in his heart" that it was time for the "next generation of the young Indian cricketer" to take over. But given a chance to prove himself in the same crowd Yes, India is at a period where our team is still doing well and reaching semis and finals of tournaments but just not doing enough to win the finals. We don't want to just win the the semis, we want to win the championships. To win that final thing we are looking to get those players who might turn out to perform better at the big stage. But how do you get the player ready for the big stage? By giving them enough chances, and hence it is important to start letting the new guys "fail" because the moment they "fail" they would have learned more valuable lessons to go and put higher price on their wicket by the time 2019wc comes around. Hece the plea and cry for the transition and the inclusion of guys like Pant etc. They deserve their chance to "fail, "learn" and eventually "shine". Time to pass the baton. The Dark Horse 1

Quite a simplified version - Not everyone who "Fails" learns and rises , if that were the case then anyone whose ever failed at something wouldn't fail but that's not the case. There are people who fail to persist or learn and people who learn from their mistakes - turn it around and rise again. I have nothing against the youngsters or the Pants/Samsons etc. Similarly to others , My point is that Raina needs to be in there to fight alongside the youngsters to make a chance to make it. He isn't very old and the young guns certainly should not shy away from competing against Raina to be chosen. At the end of the day , whosoever gets selected should be the right person and If Raina outplays them in whatever selection criteria there is then what's the harm ?

Before Raina, there are other peoven performers in the big final too like Gambhir. Pointnis these guys will wuit cricket anytime from now. While Pant and co, we know they won't and can olay for India for a long time and he ce to develop them is kmpkrtant over another guy right now who has been good in the past. Raina has been good in t20s and has rightly kept his place and no one dropped him or is dropping him from there even though he was dropped from 50 overs at the same time. But in 50 overs, others deserve a chance before we can think of trying Raina. And that "others" list is very long before Raina can even be thought of again.

Well for Raina's role as an allrounder primairly -i'd love to know that very long list - apparently you know something that I don't. I never said to discount Gambhir and my point is specific to position - in terms of Raina I am purely speaking of a player to fulfill an allrounders role which I think he definitely is capable of and should be in reckoning for. No player deserves a chance over another without a fair competition for a spot and like I said, this is my opinion that Raina should be in the mix as well - if the youngsters outplay him , sure no need to pick him , but if Raina outplays them then Raina deserves to be picked

kubrickian Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 He is Kohli's punjabi bff. No way in hell will he be dropped. Even if he scores ducks in every game from now till World Cup, he will play WC 19. Make no mistake. This is the state of affairs in our cricket now. The selectors are there for namesake. randomGuy 1

He got dropped bcoz of not being close to Kohli and not for cricketing reason. As a cricketer he is better than many players playing for us in CT. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

And Raina got dropped before Kohli was the captain and not when only Kohli came. He was dropped plenty of times under Dhoni.

BeautifulGame Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Again Yuvi is not there because he is just captain's favorite, he is selector's favorite. If you think Kohli likes him then let me say, even previous captain Dhoni must have wanted him back. Proof - Under Dhoni's captaincy, Yuvraj was part of the series before t20 world cup less than a year ago. Yuvi got injured and had to be withdrawn from our world t20 squad or else he was about to be part of that tournament where Dhoni was the captain. Later he returned after injury as he was still part of the selectors player wish-list and there in between Dhoni handed captaincy over to Kohli, and hence most players who were part of Dhoni's selection were also part of Kohli's team. Its not always the captain who picks them. Selectors pick them too without being it the first choice of the captain. Either Dhoni or Kohli both liked Yuvi or selectors ijust want to give him more and more chances and like him a lot. Thats it. Don't just blame one captain Kohli all the time just because Yuvi is currently part of the Indian team. He has been on the selectors list for a while and has been regularly picked from last 15 months. Yuvi was dropped from the odi under Dhoni. He wasn't part of the 2015 WC or Nzl series ,Dhoni's last series as captain. But made his comeback in the first series Kohli came back Yeah just selectors favourite wanted_desi, maniac and Sidhoni 3

He is selectors favorite there is no doubt. Yes, there is no doubt he would have been backed by Kohli also, but Dhoni too backed him and so did selectors.

Dhoni always picked Yuvi in T20s .In 2014 world cup as well as 2016 WC.But then he stuck with Rahane as opener too. Some of MSD selections are clueless to say the least.Cost us two T20 world cups . But in ODIs he dropped Yuvi long back.Yuvi was fit for the Nzl series as well (Was playing in Ranjis if you don't know) and still Dhoni didnt pick him. Neither had Selectors picked him. But first series Kohli back as ODI captain ,Yuvi was back in the XI.Yuvi wasn't part of the odi team for 4 years ,yes 4 years tics , before Kohli bought him into the team straightaway in his first series. So it's clear as daylight who bought Yuvi back in the odi team . Please don't blame it on the selectors lol You have to be incredibly biased to not see that lol wanted_desi 1

It happens a lot of times that a player who comes in t20 also gets selected in 50 overs. And that was the case for Yuvi. There is no way he was getting left out this time for 50 overs, he would have been sirely picked regardless of whoever was the captain since he had just comeback to t20 under Dhoni. That said, I do agree Kohli liked Yuvi's selection and hence he kept him around otherwise he would have gotten rid of him. I think most in Indian selection system liked Yuvi's selection and hence he kept getting picked even in t20s regardless of who was the captain. Selectors are to be blamed too for picking certain players due them being too sensitive about certain players. For example with big 3 and Yuvi.

I think we need to be patient, soon non performers will go away. And I am sure Kohli will yield some of the non performing seniors out. Give him time, he just recently got the job. Takes time to throw out players.
