vayuu1 Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 On slow pitches, when he is early at the crease, the Indian captain appears to be susceptible against the short ball Déjà vu This series might not be very significant, but West Indies bowlers might have given clues for other teams to build on: Virat Kohlidoesn't like it up there, especially on slower pitches. Kohli has batted four times, and West Indies have given him a fair share of bouncers when he is just in, and Kohli has struggled initially before becoming comfortable. On Sunday, he didn't look at ease at all, and eventually perished to the short ball. So what do you think is short ball a new problem for Kohli after outswing outside off stump. kubrickian Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 (edited) Nothing like that. He plays the short ball quite well and has scored against them in hundreds of games, why would it become a problem now ? Only problem is the pitches in WI are really sluggish. So you need to cut down on horizontal bat shots especially pull or hook as you cant time the ball well and its lot more tougher to judge the pace of a short delivery on such pitches. If the bounce or pace is true, you can play those shots more confidently. At the moment, he is not showing enough grit to stay at the crease and grind it out and playing some reckless shots and getting out. Because this is not an important series, he is playing some reckless shots and getting out. Agreed...only problem seems to be 4th stump line in bowling friendly conditions but again that is a problem for 90% of anyone who bats and 100% for every attackign batsman who likes to get on with it. Nothing to be concerned about express bowling 1

That's because you have a short memory. 2013 Johnnesburg test vs SA, 2016 Vizag test vs Eng, runs scored in SA tests in India which were all tough pitches among tons of others in ODIs and T20s. He is unlike a few other "great" batsmen who scores runs for records. His runs contribute to wins. Brainfade 1

Nonbeliever Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Just because opposition cat play spin the conditions become tough. Johannesburg 1400 runs scored in the match.

This is what happens if you just by stats and didnt watch the game. The pitch was quite tough to bat in first innings and then flattened out eventually. SA got bowled out for 244. When Kohli came out to bat, it was 20 odd for 2. Then he counter attacked Steyn, Morkel, Philander and Kallis. Anyway, this is a useless argument because Kohli is a proved match winner.

Vijy Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Seems to be a temporary kink, but it's certainly existent at the moment.
