Manish did fine because he has loads of experience from Domestic and A tours. Moreover, he has played a few ODIs and T20s for India. That helps. I wish he had sealed his spot in ODIs. But due to his own mistakes and injury, chances of that happening are very low.

He has not bowled after sending down 2 good overs for only 5 runs and picking 1 wicket.

Playing Krunal over him as the 5th bowler who can bat.  SA likely to be more comfortable against Shankar's medium offerings rather than Krunal's SLA in theory anyway...
