Trichromatic Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 @benstokes38 bowled only 5 overs on final day against @westindies. Others were struggling, but Root didn't have confidence in him #ENGvWI— IndianCricketFans (@ICFans) August 30, 2017

express bowling Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) I found it very strange that Stokes was not bowled much. The ball was not moving much on the last day ..... the 3 other English seamers were bowling 125 k to 133 k mark most of the times ..... medium pace with no movement does not work and it did not. Moeen was not getting much turn. Stokes has bowling the 135 k to 145 k range in this season and has been used as the " enforcer " when wickets have not fallen. He has bowled a bouncer to unsettle batters and a quick yorker to take a wicket on such occasions. Should have been used more. Edited August 30, 2017 by express bowling Rightarmfast 1
CoverDrive Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Root did not even bowl himself which was quite strange as he has been used quite smartly by Cook many times
cowboysfan Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 The problem was Woakes who looked so innocuous, you have real problems of taking 10 wickets when your 3rd seamer sucks as we have found out repeatedly on away tours.

Aging Anderson is an issue. Also they should play the new guy Ronald jones.

Unlike cricinfo, telegraph reporter do know a thing or two about inside info and how to put it in writing. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2017/08/20/england-must-drop-ben-stokes-headingley-test-against-west-indies/ Quote One England bowler, however, who appeared less predatory than Anderson and Broad was Ben Stokes. This was no dereliction of his duties as vice-captain. He bowled a dutiful spell of nine overs, for nine runs, using a straighter run-up that put less of a twisting strain on his left knee. But it is in Stokes’s nature that he wants a sterner fight than what the West Indians could offer. Stokes is the man England should rest for the second Test. He played almost all winter in the sub-continent, for England and Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL. His left knee, which stopped him bowling his full quota of overs in the Champions Trophy in June, must have a limited shelf-life – and Woakes needs game-time after not playing a Test this summer. Jonny Bairstow at six, Moeen Ali at seven and Woakes – who made his England debut at number six in 2013 – down at eight is strong enough to face this West Indian bowling. It is easy to conclude this West Indian batting line-up is their worst since their inaugural Test series in England in 1928.
