I am an Anderson fan myself but this stat is as deceiving as his average of 14 in last UAE tour.

 

Barring the 5fer in Adelaide, Anderson has been impactless this Ashes.

Yes...after they had done all the damage. Then lower order wickets. I should have phrased it better.

 

At the end, his average for this match is 25.

What's his impact for the match? Zip. Nil. Nada. Zero.

 

Anderson being a very economical bowler will have stats that show him up as much better than what he really is. All he has been doing this Ashes is being economical.

cloudy is definitely a green track bully, but even in his dotage, he is a better bowler than barbie and woakes and trundlerton (#jamie should have been selected)

anderson is a very fine bowler but he is not an ATG. has done little of note in several countries. let's not bandy that ATG tag too much. his record is quite akin to several classical eng pacers like fraser, mulally and caddick who exploited seam/swing conditions effectively. I will say that cloudy is much better than them, and has been an excellent player for eng.

 

for me, andie's biggest stumbling block is not his Asia record but how he did in Aus, NZ and SA where he averages 36, 36 and 40 respectively. this shows that he didn't do well in a lot of countries where pacers are expected to do well. it is quite akin to zaheer who avgd 28 in eng, 35 in oz, 28 in NZ and 36 in SA. I would not call either him or zak an ATG.

It's just good on papers, but that's how his bowling has been. Earlier he wasnt good even on papers.

Its too much to ask him to run through sides on aussie roads...but he has done well for a 35 yr old. Atleast better than woakes & broad.

He respect and admire his amazing skills with the ball, he is magical at times.

Last time only Mcgrath bowled better for a 35 yr old & 120 odd tests veteran.

walsh was another. akram (even without bottlecaps) was solid >35 too.

yes, cricket has changed a lot in these 10 yrs. hard to imagine test pace bowlers operating at an optimal level when they are past 35 now.
