I said tail is kind of same long if Pandya plays or doesn't play. If Pandya fails with the bat which cab likely happen I think, then our tail is kind of as long as the one I posted. And including Pandya in that bowling line up will also mean that we are kind of playing one bowler short. So I am saying we are better of playing either those four seamers or go defensive route and play two spinners, which I don't like personally overseas. Pandya has a test Ton . More then capable of getting a few 50 s . Plus could bowl well on these wickets playing 5 bowlers is no option . Straight choice between Rohit and pandya

We must have an extra 5th bowling option be it spinner or pacer.

Rohit has huge question mark on his batting in overseas test Atleast pandya can come back n give u overs. His job is to bowl 10-15 overs .....and his pace will come in handy Guys like dhawan n rohit once they fail with bat wnt contribute much , n chances of them struggling are very high Pandya played a gem of innings on a green top on Aus-A tour, its not that he doesnt have ability Also making batting to week with 5 bowlers is suicide specially in SA against that attack who can blow the tail in a flash Edited January 1, 2018 by Ankit_sharma03

Can give those extra overs and genuine bat now you see when composing team why such much effort and time invested in pandya as gives extrodinary team balance amazing potential . Can bowl 90 mph and hit ball out of park as genuine bat . Bit raw agree but can and has developed loads . Must play really .

There must be a 5th bowling option and if Rohit plays, we would have to use him for a bowler to provide rest to either seamer or two.
King Tendulkar Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Pandya more and more think about it must play . Even if struggles a bit in sa . We will reap rewards in aus and eng tours adi B 1

Man potential might be there, but I don't see that potential at this time and it scares me that he might not be able to provide the support to rest of the bowlers and might not be able to put runs against Morkel, Steyn, Philander or Rabada. Anyways, whoever plays, we should win this series. King Tendulkar 1

But unfortunately it all points to your man pandya as he ticks boxes you wanting ticked pandya sensational fielder as well . Best in team with jadeja

Bowling could be hit or miss . X factor in field bat him 7 so not too put too much pressure on him and defo can get some 50s imo

Gotta roll the dice and play him . He could be such a factor over next year away if comes off . Adds amazing balance . Batting wise maybe as good as Rohit in terms of wha end product maybe runs wise

sensible-indian Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 (edited) Actually 3 pacers + Pandya + 1 spinner ain't a bad idea too. Pandya as the 4th pacer is totally ok by me. Strengthens the batting lineup perfectly. Since the first test pitch is said to be drier, I would be tempted to go with 2 spinners (they may come into play on day 4 and 5 when pitch deteriorates). In other pitches, Pandya could be tried out. Very interesting times. Damn you BCCI for not arranging 2-3 warm up games for us to know what's what. MOFOS. Edited January 1, 2018 by sensible-indian

A workhorse pacer is needed Bumrah's advantage that he will make the batters play more, unlike Ishant who may bowl lots of leave-able deliveries. But, he has not played a 5-day game in a long time. Both get good bounce. In the end, it should depend on on who is looking better in the nets, just before the match.

Sa will laugh if play 2 spinners would play ashwin over jadeja . Jadeja bowling just too one dimensional compared to ashwin . Jadeja darts won’t get it done imo sarcastic and speedheat 2

Jadeja darts won’t get it done imo If we had played 2 spinners in Durban (2014), it would have been game changing. The 7th batsman did nothing but an extra spinner could have put a LOT of pressure on SA. 2 spinners in Lord's would have helped us win the test with ease (Ashwin ripping apart their lefties) but to be fair no one could have predicted that the green track would turn brown and turn on the last day. 2 spinners in Oval would be good too but we never made enough runs in first innings. 2 spinners in Wellington MAY have won us that match (can't say for sure though) cos NZ are awful against spin and Miraj the offie got some crucial wickets in NZ when Bangladesh toured. 2 spinners in Joberg (instead of 7th batsman) may have led to an interesting game too. 2 spinners in Adelaide 2014 would have been interesting. And these are all tests from our last overseas cycle alone. See our strength is spin. Our spinners have the mindset to lead an attack. Yes, we gotta look at conditions but sometimes, you have to back your strength. Australia won the series in India i 2004 with a great pace attack. We won some series in Eng and NZ back in the days with our spin quartet. Yes, overall spinners are inferior to pacers cos they are not as all conditions bowlers like pacers but if we have a good bunch of pacers operating in tandem, our 2 spinners can complement them very well and take over in 2nd innings. The best part about Ashwin and Jadeja is that when one fails, the other takes over and delivers. You need that stuff overseas. For all the talks of our pacers doing great, when the pitch went dodo and our spinners struggled, our pacers did NOTHING to win us the games. 1. Ranchi test 2017 2. Delhi test 2017 3. Sabina Park test 2016 (pacers took 4 wickets in like 15 overs before rain and washed out play) 4. Joberg test 2013 (Ashwin failed and our pacers didn't close out the deal) 5. Wellington test 2014 (Jaddu failed and our pacers didn't close out the deal) Only exception was Lord's test 2014 where Jaddu failed and it almost looked like England would escape before Ishant had a magical spell. This is why I believe that we should go with 3 pacers and 2 spinners in most overseas tests (2 spinners improves our odds cos usually overseas pitches don't get too slow plus our spinners have developed). This team will win us a test match for sure. That bowling line up got variety and pace to unsettle proteas. Perfect team. The only change I will have is, I will have an option between Umesh and Ishant. I see people are getting excited about Pandya. if he was so essential for the team, where was he for the SL test series? You don't take an untested weapon to a war. South Africa is a war. Its no place for experimentation. Pandya will fail as a batsman 9 out of 10 times. He is not going to trouble the south african batsmen with his bowling either. Not at this point of time. If we want to win the test, we need to have specialist players. Cricketics 1
