We will dominate world cricket . Talent coming through is crazy

Recommended Posts

I think it is very important to have a good professional foreign coach to groom and manage talents.

Greg Chappell was very good at this and we saw some exciting talent come through in his regime...he flopped badly as a man manager but his intentions were good.

Even under Wright a lot of good talent came in.

When I use the word bias it becomes a negative term but there is no way to get around it in a country like ours...we all have our bias and it is natural....for eg, Kohli might have played alongside Dhawan and seen him play some destructive innings for his state side and that sticks in his core memory and he might think of Dhawan as an xfactor.can we blame him for that?..hell even look at Warner or Moody when they play/manage for SRH,they keep picking Henriques and have so much faith in him over some Indian talent because they might have seen him do some great stuff in their domectics...same goes for Kumble, when he does work at a state level for his management firm trying to find talent. He might look at a player who is real good and get impressed and push for him,but is there a chance that there might be a lot more talented players than that person- in a big country like ours it is a possibility right?

For someone like Imran Khan it was easy because there are what 2 or 3 regions in Pakistan? So he can scan for the best available talent..Same was for Ranatunga.

In India it becomes a challenge.

Selectors picking on a zonal quota is obviously a problem but let us say if the top X1 cricketers in the country belong to one state or zone then people will raise eyebrows even when they are picked on merit.

Best option is to look for individuals who don’t come with a in built bias. Sports management /talent sporting firms getting over involved is an issue but on the surface it is good because the better talent you pick, you make money when he becomes a star.

Ravi Shastri is useless as a coach...sure he can be a manager and may be act as a guy who can communicate and manager other internal stuff, but in a country like ours we need outside professional help or a guy who has no bias  (which is like finding needle in a haystack)

It is great we have so much talent coming through,in fact that has never been the problem.managing them has been.

Every U-19 WC we see exciting talent but where are they today? Why do we have to go back to DK,Pappu,Yuvraj’s of the world? Because a) the talent is not well managed and hence there is no faith in them b) we are very conservative when it comes to trusting a youngster.

for big cricketing  regions like Delhi,Punjab,Hyderabad,Karnataka,Mumbai,Bengal (these days under Dada’s watch),Baroda ,TN etc it might be easy for the boards to lobby for a talent

but

How easy it is for a Dhoni(jharkhand),influx of players from UP we saw in the last 10 years,Sreeshanth(Kerala) etc  to be in the reckoning... like it was in the early part of Indian cricket it is still a problem.

Talent has never been the issue.identifying, grooming and managing them is and unless there is a process set up for it ,it will be a continuing problem.

So we world number 1 in tests . Odi number 2 . Last World Cup semis . Last ct final .

things are not that bad looool

And how many overseas series have we won in Aus, NZ, SA or Eng recently? :giggle:

We can have tailunt on paper and king on home pattas. Talk to me when we get rid of BCCI politics, nepotism, stupid decisions that prefer minting money over preparation for a overseas tour or ridiculuous team selections. Great teams like the WI of 80s and the Aus of 90-00s won in alien conditions. Until that happens, I do not give a * about tailunt!! :phehe:

Ian Bishop continually singing praises for Mavi and Nagarkoti whilst commentating here. Says he is so impressed that they are not only lightning fast but also polished in their bowling techniques.

Bish knows his cricket and his pace bowling, so that is high praise indeed.

Unlikely, seen this before, u19 Indian teams looking really good, winning world cups

But many of these youngsters fail to breakthrough Ranji

success at U19 is no garunteee

How do you say they fail to break through Ranji. There is never a 100% success rate. Rahul, Pujara, Rohit, Rahane, Kohli, Ishant, Jadeja, Patel these eight players from this Indian team played India u19. This is about 50%. India is such a big country that most players can't play u19 because you can only pick 14-15 at once. Likes of Bumrah didnt play India u19 but came through u19 Gujarat.

Excellent post. Indian hockey has implemented your points well. All our teams (men, women, juniors) have foreign coaching staff/foreign fitness trainers and all zonal selections are overseen by European talent scouts. Hockey India is being run like an efficient corporate machinery with elimination of local lobbies. Even the CEO of Hockey India is an Aussie lady Elena Norman and she is doing a marvelous job with our teams, bringing the best from Australia and Europe to nurture our juniors. No wonder we have taken a great leap forward in field hockey after the depressing period of 1990s and 2000s. There is no untouchable superstar in Indian hockey anymore and we have world class talent emerging from Nagaland/Manipur and Chattisgarh, even the Kohli equivalent of Indian hockey Sardar Singh (erstwhile Punjab lobby backed) was dropped for non performance and juniors from our U 19 winning team were drafted to play series against Netherlands last year.
