I merely said he is not as polished as say someone like bumrah. And that does make a difference. Bumrah is a smart kid. Had Dhoni dared speak against Bumrah the way he did against Umesh, I bet there would be consequences. But a choot like Dhoni was able to put such players down because he was able to play his mindgames. umesh is a bowler with lower cricketing sense.....if captain guides him the areas to bowl ,he can become a great bowler, if let alone without any plans like in dhoni era -he falters.

Yes very slow progress if you ask me. Genuine fast bowlers don't have very long careers. So they have to hit the stride asap. Work horses like Ishant can play indefenitely and produce occasional performance. Not sure Umesh will last for so many years. So onus is on him and also the Indian think tank to get the best out of him while he is in good rythm. Anymore dilly dallying with his selection will not only hurt his career also India's prospects. He started playing with cricket ball very late and being a high pace bowler. early club and university cricket was easy for him. He could take wickets by just sheer pace and due to that he did not learn that art of bowling. On other hand someone like Bumrah who was not at quick at early age and also coming through proper age group cricket playing for Gujarat, he came through the proper channel. velu and Mosher 2

Better education, better surroundings do help you become sharper than the rest. Umesh lacks that. And that's exactly what I meant. velu and LORD_analyst 2

Umesh did play club and University though not a lot. One of his friends had made him joined his club where Gandhe saw him playing. Then he played a game or two for U22 and then Ranjji. Gandhe did not find him playing tennis ball cricket. One of his friend from college did who asked him to play for his club and there Ranji cricketers were also playing. Gandhe saw him there.
