You could , on any given day, read an average English fan extolling the virtues and supremacy of test cricket and putting LOI cricket and T20 leagues down as inferior and not worthy of attention. And yet despite all this the ECB are the ones demanding two World T20's to be played one after the other, English players are running after IPL and BBL contracts and now playing a T20 game between 2 tests. Just pointing out the hypocrisy that's all. :)

Don't know about the English fans ... their opinions might or might not have been consistent all along.  And they are allowed to oscillate as just fans.

 

But the English cricket fraternity took a rather negative stance towards the different flourishing T20 leagues ... but have started their own T20 league now and pushing for a World T20 in place of the next Champions Trophy.  Looks hypocritical.

 ..The NatWest T20 blast started in season 2003 in England , remind me again when ICL and IPL started ?

Lol at the outrage and shock on here and it completely skirts the main issue (although foreign onlookers can easily be forgiven for missing the main issue). The issue is that this is a very rare event. An England player playing for his county in any format. In my view the ECB should allow England players to play for their counties whenever England do not have a match on the same day, unless it's a county championship match whereby an England match starts or finishes on any given day of a CC match

A knockout T20 match is exactly the sort of game a player like Buttler should be playing for his county, but it doesn't happen often enough thanks to the ECB

As Mark Butcher said on radio , Alastair Cook has been a Test Batsman / Farmer only for the last few years with no other cricket in-between , I wonder why he has struggled for form !!

Good, let them play some more. T20 is the last thing they want to be playing now seeing how their batsmen are doing in the ongoing series.
