I think its too early to say that on vihari, he will occupy rahanes place in future  in middle order.

Haven't seen him bat since the Aus tests.  But he looked like someone whose confidence was utterly destroyed.  

 

Its my speculation but its a massive case 'fear of failure' syndrome.  Few short months ago, he was anointed as the next big thing of Indian Cricket.   Next ODI and T20 opening batsman - Anybody who bats in top 3 for India in LOI cricket and does well, is pretty much a superstar.  Now for it all to go pear-shaped so soon, is a big embarrassment to him, and its like he's stuck in a hole, trying to climb out, but all the walls are slippery and he keeps falling down. 

 

He needs to find a way to re-set.  Domestic cricket is his best bet.

And not enough trust in his own game.  After he hit out in that game he made that 40 in Aus. He was quick to feel back in form and ended edging a wide one.
