I was not even 10% of what Shubman gill is when I was 19 - Virat Kohli

Just to clarify Kohli did not bench and drop Gill as haters want to say

Opposite

He backed and called up a teenager.  Drafted and fast tracked him in to squad even though he has no white ball excellecy in domestocs to talk about.  Let the lad settle in to india squad and get used to playing with his heroes and then when series won and pressure less played him to taste international cricket.  Perfectly sensible

Gill will be gun bat for us but this wc is too soon, thats life guys, now settle down

ps Gill must be thrilled being in India squad and happy as larry

Kohli was right

this is how kohli looked on debut

This is how gill bats . Gill looks more polished and lets not judge him in 2 games. Youngsters shud be left free for few years . Kohli became kohli coz his attitude ....

So you are comparing an international match to some random domestic match:hmmm:wo bhi against sl great  vaas ke samne . Why didn’t you use gill performance against bolt?:nono:

will he bat with a ulta bat in international , its how u play the ball . Kohli is clearly talking about his talent .

Wo khela kitna hai interntaional . Its not about perfomance its the talent of batting which kohli referred to

There’s big difference between int and domestic matches .everyone looks good in random  India red or green

imo shaw looked better than gill .. belted few fast bowlers in IPL as well

if we cant fasttrack shaw , then we shld go with pant

They are different . Shaw is a boundary hitter . He may not make lot of of big hundreds but his strike rate will always be high.

His hand eye co ordination to create shots is very good . Gill  is more on a VK mold but not with his skills of rotating strike .

As i have said couple of months back , in One dayers initially he will have more dot balls , he is yet to over come that.

There is no delibarate attempt to play slowly and take a run , instead he will play it to the fielders. You do not see him using a

dead bat defence much. Also in NZ he seems to play with hands streched away from body. This could be exploited even in SC conditions by making him play early with change of pace & get caught.

But with some 10 one dayers ,these things will fall in place .

In any case most of the great players have taken couple of years minimum to blossom be it  Crowe,Root , kohli, babar Azam, .

I expect him to be an international class player in the next 12-15 months if he gets continuous opportunities..

He has minimal foot movement and ability to strike rotate , almost all his shot goes straight to the fielder

That's what happen when 19 year old batsmen go into big matches...

Remember your +2 level college (intermediate) days ....and if you have to give any presentations......your feet gets frozen and your brain stops working.....Gill is no different.....Give him a free ride for 5 to 10 matches, he will show his wide range of shots to you....

He as a very high ceiling....Hopefully handled with care
