Ind could have framed this better

It was a good move to conduct preemptive strike on terror groups based in Pakistan. However, Ind could have framed this initiative in a better way

  • First, there was this unnecessary (and may be immature) chest thumping about teaching Pak a lesson (Nobody considers Ind as a teacher and wants to learn a lesson from it). On one hand, you are saying that you are attacking terrorist groups (and not Pak in particular). On the other hand, you are talking about teaching a lesson (Indian media played into it as well)
  • Second, you try to show as if by entering Pak border, you did something unimaginable. Whereas you could have portrayed it as an absolute necessity and a standard procedure. May be in some way tried to acknowledge Pak for not taking action vs the planes when they entered Pak territory (Even though they had no chance. And both countries know that)
  • Third, could have immediately reached out to Pak with necessary paperwork on the day itself explaining the reasons. Preempting, Pak response the next day

What Ind did was spent the day on chest thumping. Rather than try to tie up the loose ends up

Now if the goal was to engage in a limited war by drawing Pak out (and implying that the attack on terror group is the same as Pak), the mission is accomplished. Since this is the direction that the issue has taken, I hope Ind does not back down and takes the opportunity to inflict more damage to stamp its authority on the Kashmir issue. We cannot be going through such phases again and again (the goal is to eventually alleviate the conflict and hostilities). Because we have got in to this situation, we have to make use of this opportunity to try to gain leverage in the area to not keep the issue constantly burning. At the end of the day, it is up to us to solve the issue by hook or crook

Over and Out

I think the message is delivered.

1. We can cross the border if we feel we have to strike preemptively.

2. The proxy war tactics employed by Pakistan are no longer low cost options. Has costed them damage done by 1000 KG of bombs, an F16 fighter plane, airspace closure for 24 hours and counting along with cost of military high alert all over the country.

3. Terrorists know they are no longer safe and can be struck at anytime.

This is far from the end of this menace but at least we have made a start.

The thread is more about framing, which has escalated the issue (unless that is the desired effect) .... Message was delivered (even though there is no doubt that Ind can do that given its conventional superiority. The question was more about political will) once we took out the camp

Also very unlikely we will target civilian areas unless Pakistanis start doing so in a full blown war.

Karachi is the only Pakistani city with sea boredring it. India's navy like Indian armed forces adn airforce outnumbers Pakistan's. India can easily target karachi with naval warfare tactics being very dominant. Hence there is panic in Karachi.

Pakistan's sea line is very less whereas India's sea line is tremndous. No wonder their naval assets are ridiculous in front of our navy.
