This guy should have played in world cup, they totally mismanaged his talent.He is far better than useless DK and Shankar.Hope he gets full go at no4 and cements his place.

I think Iyer looks the part so far in ODI. We need to back him for number 4 in both T20 and ODI

His SR is low for T20 so far, but he can get comfortable with enough backing I think.

I hope Daredevils still keep shreyas as the  captain. He is 24 and is getting exposed to captaincy and is learning fast. If everything goes well he will be In the peak of his prime in 6 years as batsmen peak around then. Kohli,Rohit and Rahane,Pujara (in tests) will be the wrong side of 30s which means Shreyas can take over as the captain in all 3 formats.

 

He also needs to be in the scheme of things in tests as well

He even said rahane is right for no.4 when he made runs in SA and never played him again in ODI. We had players but kohli messed up our no.4 issue with his lack of patience. Any other good captain wud have identified 3-4 players and wud have given then 20-25 games to find the answer. He gave 2-3 gamea at most to any youngster n moved on

well said .... Rahane is a good example w.r.t  what all you said & a bit more, i mean a good example of  poor  team management .  Rahane is now  31y 157d old. He made his debut in ODIs at 23 y & 3m , perfect time for debuting. But after 43 inns he averaged a mere 28.88 with str: 77.33 which is far off from adequate  for a slot in the team. But instead of dropping him then and there itself  they persisted with him. Result.... Rahane thru experience improved a lot to avg: 41.95 @ 79.59  in next  44 inns. And then they dropped him. So basically when he needed to be dropped they persisted with him and when he needed to be persisted  they dropped him.

 

All in all  87 inns wasted on a batsman  who could avg: only 35.26 @78.63  when there were so many   highly talented youngsters

waiting for their chances.Just soo strange are the ways of this TM.

      That's where  the Coach's role becomes important. Right now players are given chances as per captain's whims it seems . The very idea that Virat

      does not have no idea who are the potential best fits for middle Order is such a sorry state of affairs . Cannot make out how a world class batsman

      cannot figure out that when looks at potential players .

      A good coach would have finalized with captain what he is looking for players say for # 4 & 5 and if that moron has not enough idea , can drill the          that point to him . Then take those requirements to selectors with their list of 3-4 players for 4 & 5 positions to selectors .

        That would have solved all this problem in those 4 years by persisting with those 3-4 players .
