No need to play any bits and pieces players if you have batsmen who can do their job and bowlers who can do theirs, Viv was good enough to roll his arm .

dont quote about an era where the rules are completely diff infact when half the games were with red ball n 60 overs

Neither do we have the main attack of WI ....so consider everything

I don't think any of them was even close to Bond. Shane Bond was just a special bowler if not for his injuries.

You mean to say Marshall, Robert's Patterson, holding, garner, Wayne Daniel and Winston Davis were below bond, and Viv Haynes Lloyd greenidge can't match aussie hitters.

We are not talking about Indian team. Why you bring your bits and pieces players into every conversation.

By the end of the 80s WI went from Roberts/Holding/Garner/Marshall to Marshall/Ambrose/Bishop/Walsh :fear1:

Captaincy too changed hands from Lloyd to King Viv by then.

West Indies team lacked goat wicket keeper, spinner & few batsman in middle order. Pace bowlers were scary though.

If we have to consider strongest xi to play odi cricket then i think this will be it.

Gilchrist

Hayden

Ponting

Martyn

S Waugh

Symonds

Bevan

Warne

Lee

Gillespie

McGrath

Big reason to have this side ahead of west indies is aus had everything covered. Great wicket keeper batsman. Great spinner, Good middle order & finisher. Great fielders and good variety in pace attack.

who is bringing bits n pieces m arguing with ur logic of those teams not needing an all rounder which in reality was a benefit of much superior bowling attack n diff set of rules

ur the one who used that word i didnt

Steve waugh paired with Lehmann :wall::facepalm:. Steve is the Dad of Australian batting.

The team i wrote was of around 2003 wc where steve waugh wasn't part of that xi and that's reason i wrote it there also s waugh wasn't great odi batsman but he has played some clutch knocks so surely ahead of Lehmann for me.

No team even today needs allrounders. Allrounders unless they are able to make it to the team on either skill are useless. Aussie teams did not have any allrounders.

It does not matter what era it is, all time great pace bowlers will always be always effective. When you have four of the greatest fast bowlers you don't need anybody.

Look around which is great odi team. There is no great odi team now. England is filled with bits and pieces players and they would be no match against any team with great fast bowling.India is purely one dimesional team  with no great batsmen against pace bowlers.

Bits and pieces players have no role in any team.

and thats what make england a better side. do u remeber a better england LOI squad then this when they had specialist btw

as if they werent destroyed before by fats bowler...every fast bowler had a liking for pommies

this is a very debatable term- everyone uses it and its just an old term to describe utlity cricketer

Modern day LOI is only about match winner n utility players thats why specialist who dont fal under both have been dropped by their teams- likes of rahane n all

This point people keep talking about WI bowlers bowled in 60 over era is  complete nonsense.Great pace bowlers will be effective in any era and against any batsmen. They might go for more runs than they did when they played but they sure will be among the best bowlers even today.

Relentless 90 plus MPH bowling with accuracy and bounce is nightmare for any batsmen in any era.People are going gaga over guys like Saini and Prassad here but those guys would not be even in the same field as those WI fast bowlers.

Who said Rahane is specialist batsman in odis, he is utter useless in odis and t20s. If we have have guys like Rohit and Kohli, India will be fine. But we don't that's why there is problem with this team.

Who said England is one of the ATG  odi teams.

rahane is a specialist - problem not a match winner or has any utility

exactly who said that

Read carefully, this is the best Eng side in their ODi history not overall

Nobody asked for Rahane to be in Indian team. Don't confuse yourself with tag specialist batsman.

Having best odi team from England is not a big achievement, England has stunk for ages.
