Yeah you are right even Nadeem would have scored a double as the pitch was absolutely patta no spin seam or movement, wonder why they have gill in the team, shouldn’t even have him in the team as we have so many players who can fill up this role such as Nadeem Siraj gowtham, gill should just focus on commentary or maybe umpiring!

Second innings pitch got easier to bat on after some time. Even Vihari scored 100 not out, no wickets fell whole day. It shows pitch got easier to bat. Pitch was spicey in the first innings.

Even if gill came in 6th over, he still batted at 5 and not opening and is playing as mo batsman. How can people compare openers and MO batsman. You want Gill to play as an opener in test?

He is good enough to play as no. 5 or 6 right now.

Says something about the temperament & hunger to score isn’t, don’t forget he is hurting being not selected & made statements in public, all of this itself adds to the pressure dude, not easy when ur only 19!! Easy for us to say the pitch is flat!!

Rahane has been very very inconsistent in the last 30 months. Deserves to be dropped.

 

Pant has batted at No.7 often enough and India has preferred 6 batsmen + keeper in the recent past in tests overseas.

I don't think the Gill issue merits much debate really.

 

1.   Anyone who is connected to cricket, either as a player or as a regular spectator, can see that he is a very special talent and a cut above most other young aspiring batters. Such talent needs to be fast tracked.

 

2.   He has come up the ranks ... successful at U19 level ... at state level ... and performing for India A.  So, he has done the hard yards.

 

Get him in the senior team and give him a long rope. 

 

It is as simple as that.

Next Series is in WI...where he did damn well last time and then home series against SA....which is his fav bowling attack in any condition.....if he scores runs....he wont be dropped

Rohit sharma who will keep getting chances for god knws how long

Vihari who will get poor chances due to rohit ......

 

So for next 2-3 series gill atleast isnt making test squad

Vihari was dropped 3 times as far as I can remember, in 20s, 40s and then in 70s. Gill’s innings was chancless. Spicy or Patta, anyone who has played decent cricket will know scoring 100 /200 in 3rd innings is a special feet. WI bowling gave up when Gill kept attacking them.

Since Nov 2016, he has averaged 28.97 against Test standard sides in 25 Tests. Of all the batsmen who have scored 1000+ runs in this phase, only Moeen Ali has a lower average. That is almost half of his career so it can no longer be shrugged off as a bad phase.

As a Test specialist, he should be entering his peak right now and getting the daddy hundreds. Instead all he does is get a couple of 50s in each series to save his place in the side. Not really worth the hassle. Someone like Gill who seems to have a much higher ceiling should be given a run instead. Rahane at best can compete with Vihari etc for the 6th batsman spot.

From 2013-2016 rahane did pretty well

1-2 bad yrs can happen ... a huge reason was a lot of cricket in Subcontinent which is not his strongest point.  But he holds gr8 value overseas. His 48 in Sa in 3rd can look just 48 but was worth in gold. Yes he needs to improve a lot in subcontinet but with time it can happen ....even pujara has overseas 

Yes last 2-3 yrs have been bad last 2 series was better ......n i think he shud get 2 series more which m sure he ll get

No.6 spot is basically between batsman vs All rounder......thing that ll go against rahane, gill for 6th spot is that they both dont ball

 

We also need to keep in mind  experience is also imp.....we already have 2 openers mayank n shaw who are inexp ...then pant n pandya most days well. M not against gill but for test cricket he has to wait 2-3 series atleast and before him vihari is in line. 

Rahane has played quality knock so he deserves backing. Gill at the same time shud be drafted in ODI cricket
