I don't think KLR did enough to earn that long rope. an avg of 35 after 35+ tests is almost like an opener from 1980s india (chetan chauhan-level). TM just persisted with him because we hadn't unearthed shaw and agarwal by then, and because dhawan and vijay were doing even more badly. now, there are plenty of backups such as gill (who can double as middle order bat), panchal and easwaran.

Rahul is lucky that TM stuck with me and Shaw got injured at the wrong time.Gill has not yet made it.

Rohit sharma opening in test ...comedy chal rha hai kya

It is not comedy.

Rohit Sharma has first class average over 50 batting in India.

He cannot do worse than the players tried i.e Dhawan, Vijay, KL and Agarwal.

He is in Peak of his career.

New ball does not move that much in India.

Option atl east needs to be tried once to see the outcome. No harm in trying.

Yes he can ....anyone can...all a batsman need is to get out on 0

Dhawan had a gr8 tour of NZ in 2014

Vijay has done well overseas

Aggarwal has done well in Aus

Kl has 100 in Aus, ENG, WI

What wrong has aggarwal done to be dropped

Rohit has 0 -100 overseas , not even in SL

What has rohit sharma done overseas........rarely he scores then also he gets out on 70s

The avg ur quoting is after decline

what he did good was before his decline

the avg I am quoting is his overall career avg. if you take the part when it declined, it's even lower. simply not acceptable for a team that aims to be number 1 in the world.

Rohit is the 4th worst batsman in overseas.....mind u kapil was an all rounder

18 chances are enough

Borde was also an AR to an extent (in those crappy teams), and manjrekar sr kept wickets in some matches. rohit has no other skill to offer apart from his test "batting". hence, with the exception of srikkanth, one can say that he's been one of the worst overseas batsmen. not even one score above 80 in 18 tests.

In srikanth defense also.....opening is the toughest job overseas

an avg of 24 is no "defense" regardless of what position one bats at (as long as someone is a specialist batsman). our team those days was crap, and srikkanth was a crappy test player. it's best to call a spade a spade. with that said, he was a pretty good ODI player for those days.

They made Srikanth Indian captain too, that was a disgrace of highest order.

srikkanth was a good captain (compared to some of the other turds who captained that era), but his overseas batting was not good enough to justify selection. should have been played only in ODIs, where his batting was more suited, his fielding was good, and his bowling could be surprisingly effective at times.

You need to deserve a place in the team on merit to be captain first. He was walking wicket thruout that series, Imran Khan even recalled him once after umpire gave him out , only for him to get out next ball again.

If Rohit Sharma is no good, why is being picked in Test Format.

Former players who have backed him  recently to be part of test team. They all can't have hidden agendas.

S Ganguly

V Sehwag

M Azharuddin

S Gavaskar

S Akhtar

As with all walks of life, people can improve and get better.

Also watching cricket should be entertaining. Current Indian batting line is far from entertaining.

Currently India has 300 plus lead but they are just blocking balls.

PS, I am Rohit Sharma fan so maybe a bit of bias.

But I believe he does of the skills to be a good batsmen in Test Cricket
