Reports: Kuldeep Yadav carrying a shoulder injury from the day he landed in New Zealand

Kuldeep Yadav is going through possibly the worst phase of his international career. Once touted as the X-factor of the Indian white-ball set-up and a potential all-format bowler, the stocks of the Chinaman have nosedived in the past 8-10 months.

Kuldeep had a forgettable outing in the first One-day International in Hamilton where he conceded 84 runs in his quota of ten overs- which included ten boundaries and a six. It is the most number of runs that Kuldeep has conceded in his 60-match ODI career.

But ever since his forgettable display in Hamilton, more and more questions are being raised on both his form and most importantly his fitness. Kuldeep, it seems is suffering from a shoulder injury, as per reports by Bangalore Mirror. He has been carrying this injury right from the day he landed in New Zealand.

The Indian team had conducted two practice sessions during the T20I series- one on January 23, a day before the first T20I at Auckland and then on January 28 ahead of the third T20I- and Kuldeep bowled in neither of them.

In fact, he was almost unselectable in the recently-concluded five-match Twenty20 International series and one of the commentators said during the T20Is that he had a chat with Kuldeep and he was informed that it will take at least one week for him to return to full throttle.

Kuldeep Yadav was seen struggling in the first ODI

And, those who witnessed Kuldeep in the first ODI at Seddon Park would have realized that he wasn’t bowling at full throttle as he was struggling to bowl his stock delivery: the wrong’un.

Ravichandran Ashwin was picked for the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan back in 2017 when it was in common knowledge that he was struggling with niggles. Back in 2018, the same Ravichandran Ashwin was played in the Southampton Test against England when once again he wasn’t fully fit. India lost both the games and Ashwin was blamed for both of those defeats.

Coming back to Kuldeep, it will be interesting to see whether the team management persists with him in Auckland or do they rope in Yuzvendra Chahal in what is a do-or-die encounter for the Men in Blue.

Ye maar khane ke baad injury ka bimaari kyo lagti hai Asian countries ke players ko.

This is the 2nd instance in a week .

Why an injured player plays  if he is injured ? Or is it just an excuse .?

dont think its an excuse as simon doull n irfan were talking about this in t20 series only when he was on bench

Selective leaks to the media to destroy a young player. Classical operating model of dictatorial regimes.

How is it that Kuldeep was fit to play in an ODI but was never picked for T20s? And if the TM knows he isn't fully fit, how com he is still in NZ? The earlier this toxic regime of Kohli-Shastri ends, the better it is for Indian cricket.

only chance of ending is if bewda drinks so much that he gets alcohol toxicity.

I didn't notice any discernible discomfort while Kuldeep was bowling in first ODI. Looks like a speculative, dubious article. Since when did 'wrong-un' become Kuldeep's stock delivery. Even though his bowling was under par, he still picked up 2 wickets, and did as bad as or slightly better than others like Thakur and Jadeja in that match. However, best thing for Kuldeep right now would be to get dropped and allowed to focus on IPL & coming domestic season, as this TM clearly doesn't have much confidence in him.

And who says that Ashwin was injured in 2017 CT final? LOL, Ashwin & Jadeja both got exposed that day on a flat track, making TM realize that time had come to use wrist spinners in LOIs, especially in SENA. A lesson we benefitted from for 1 year before mysteriously forgetting that lesson, and again opting for 1 defensive finger-spinner in LOIs. I am also not sure about Ashwin injuries in Eng and Aus test series - he struggled to pick wickets in initial tests of both series and then got 'injured'.

I have a feeling that Kuldeep, even in this phase when he is low on confidence and suffering sub-par form, will be sorely missed in the test series when Ashwin and/or Jadeja fail to break through a stubborn middle/lower order partnership once ball is 40+ overs old, pitch has eased out and pacers lose their bite. That's when Kuldeep's slow, loopy leg spinner and wrong uns will be missed.

NZ did the smart thing by asking Sodhi to play in the A game, as they have detected a slight vulnerability in Kohli's game against leg spin and want to exploit that in tests. They did not care about the ODI series as they know test championship points are more crucial. We on the other hand, are bowling Bumrah and Shami in LOIs despite knowing Ishant is injured and a freak injury to either Shami or Bumrah will effectively wreck whatever chance we have in tests. Thats why the current TM is one of the most knee-jerk, adhoc and shambolic we have had in many-2 years. Everything runs on Kohli's whim and fancy.

Makes sense as to why he was getting slower in the air as his overs went deep ,nor was he getting much rotations on the ball!

He needs a break from intl cricket, he needs to come back strong before the wt20
