NZ built their 1st innings on Williamson and Ross. Once that foundation was set, it was easier for the rest of their batsmen to build on that. Indian batsmen did nothing to build a decent 1st innings and place pressure on NZ batting order. If India scored around 300 in the 1st. NZ would have been under a lot of pressure.

So by your logic, they shouldn’t be losing 4-0 in India even after winning tosses.
