My bad, but let' stick to that, no judgment. 

 

EDIT:  A concern was raised that this is a tread that could incite people to panic,  That is NOT my intention.  But I could be wrong,  and if enough folks feel it's going there I will ask mods to delete it.  Until then:

 

Just a running track record of forumers' individual lives and times in the age of Corona.

 

I'm sitting put in Dehradun, with my aged parents.  Wife is in Noida, and is putting off coming down here.  I'm terrified for myself but also that my father and mother may catch it and at their age.......

 

I'm terrified that if this goes up to Uttarakhand villages with their aging populations (massive migrations have left entire vilages of folks aged 60-70 plus). There are no testing measures worth shite.

 

Today I stocked up on a few essentials, but people are still thronging stores and markets. I'm not sure how long they'll be out there before we lock down completely.

 

And yes now I know someone who has caught the virus- a former colleague who lives in the US.

Take precautions and most importantly don't panic. Do what's necessary at this moment. Stocking is ok but things go out of hand if just a small percentage of people start panicking. You would have known by now that in US, most of the stores are empty because of stocking out of fear. People there are more at risk of starving to death rather than catching coronavirus. they watch hollywood movies which promote nothing but fear and surviving disaster.

In India, there will be less panic as one can rely on veg sellers and provisions operating maybe at a higher cost. I remember during Chennai floods, there were still vegetable and milk sellers who were pushing carts on knee high water levels and in some areas waist high levels. The only problem is the "educated" over smart people (Ashwin comes to mind ) who watch hollywood survival movies and start stockpiling foods. Modi has said in the nation's address that food, milk and medicine will be available and no need to panic. Buy as usual maybe stock a little but don't overdo it like the americans.

i did an mba in logistics. trust me. stocking like americans did is a bad idea. It fvcks up the supply chain. Usually every point in the supply chain such as

1. the retailer who sells it to you,

2. wholesaler,

3. sabzi and rice mandis,

4. individuals farmers who produce rice and veggies

keep a little extra to manage the fluctuations in demand. When you put unnecessary pressure on your point of purchase, the retailers will demand that much more extra items and this will grow exponentially to the producer who cant manage it. This is why calmness is the need of the hour. If you are glued to the tv, maybe its a good idea to switch it off for a while and go out or read a book. Also most of the stocked food will end up in the trash. If everyone bought as usual, we can avert this. In disaster times, we have to rely on each other which is what I saw in the chennai floods as usually people who are each other's necks helped each other in a moment of adversity. It usually works out well in India. We have seen more disasters than US.

I'm not looking for gyaan on supply chains, or comments on chronicling please.

 

If you want to contribute in line with the objective of this thread, go ahead. Ie write about what you're doing.  There's a lot of stuff going down that would be interesting to read, especially how forummers are coping.  I'd want to read it.

You can do as you please. the only problem I have with your OP is it has the ability to incite other forum members to panic. My response about supply chains and logisitics is to calm anyone reading it while your post is giving flight tickets into panicstan

Buy per person supply of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin from your local drugstore or wherever you can get it.  Take common sense precautions.  Stock up on dry grains - as most desi homes usually already do - so you can feed yourself for 2-3 weeks if necessary.  There is no harm in taking basic preparation steps.

In a perfect world where everyone uses a bit of common sense, this would be manageable. But in reality, 100-200 idiot is all it takes for the whole world to go nuts. Toilet paper hogging, buying 10-20 bags of rice, all can foods are gone, Soaps, medicine, alcohol, etc, none left. DOCTORS has no more gloves left in italy to perform their task - which in return are getting the doctors sick and the virus is killing them. These types of behavior is creating a chain reaction in people, where they are also thinking if I don't get it now, will I get it later.

 

This is a walking dead live action reality at this point. If this continues, where you labeled supply chain will be disrupted, I can see crimes/theft going up. It feels like this is Earth's way of creating it's own antibody (coronavirus) and getting rid of the virus (human) that inhibits it.

I agree with everything but the last line. I don't know if its Earth that's doing it or some elites doing this. Maybe this suggestion should be in the kaanspiracy thread . But think about most things conspiracy theorists talk about - Martial Law, Police State, restriction of freedom, movement, quarantine, mass epidemic, killing in record numbers. It fits right in. And coronavirus can be used as an excuse for forced vaccination. Its almost like most people will demand it and what is the number one rule of democracy - vote in major numbers to win elections or in this case a decision to take away vaccination rights from the minority who resist taking it. Who knows what is in the vaccine. Maybe the actual virus is in it. Also vaccines have mercury and other toxic substances. It can lead to disaster if given to young children and old people.

If you are really worried about you and your parents, then the minimum you could do is to buy this stuff:

 

 

Along with this, buy lot of Hydrogenperoxide (min  3%) to be used as "Surface Disinfectant". 

 

Make sure you disinfect your overall thoroughly, and then take it out and hang somewhere outside before entering the home. According to the study, coronavirus was not found in the air too much, as it was found on the surfaces. 

 

Also disinfect your "respirator" before entering home.  (And use respirator only when you are outside, as masks are not efficient enough against the virus). 

 

In simple words, take all those precautions which the medical staff are taking while handling the corona patients (Respirators, Overalls, hand Shoes, safety googles, Surface disinfectants, Hand Sanitizers). Make sure none of your skin is exposed to the air when you are outside (i.e. overall, googles, respirator/masks) cover whole of your body. 

 

Also spray Hydrogenperoxide a lot at home (in case if any member gets infected). Sanitize bathrooms and door grips twice or thrice a day. Family members should use separate beds and they should also try to avoid close contacts.

Wah, Mr MBA is claiming knowledge based on social media photos.  

 

Shortage of "toilet paper" doesn't mean there are supply issues in US.  Even that will resolve itself in matter of days, even with increased panic.  

 

And India is not US - it does not have robust supply chain. Folks in India need to be smart, and start prepping for low probability chaos scenarios.  

 

Its all good to say "don't panic".  And valid too.  But common sense preparations, or advising for it, is not panic.

In continuation of the above post, here's an example: it's getting a conundrum for people with medical conditions - someone in my family has hypertension and diabetes.  My mother has a heart condition.

 

What should I tell them if they ask me to buy medicines for 2 months (they usually stock up for 15 days)? 

 

There are harder choices which underlie, and perhaps go beyond, just asking people not to panic.

Haha, that last line was to give the post a bit of extra Drama  but yeah it would be hard to pass on the conspiracy theory behind. Just look at how hard the republican party and fox news tried to spread nonsense about the virus till it became too late to control it. Sheeps followed those words from the President like he is their savior.  Scary times we live in.

Maybe people need to reevaluate their "real life" crisis management skills & experience, if any! The spread is exponential, you know what'll happen when hawkers, street vendors or small shop owners start dropping like flies? Even our villages have moved right besides the boundaries of most major cities due to uncontrolled urbanization 

If you thought China, heck Italy's situation was bad just wait till you see official figures cross 1k & the govts start testing more people than what they're willing to do today! It's always better to be safe than sorry, always but seems like people are still delusional about the crises that's about to hit us. I've seen this with my friends & family as well, the ignorance regarding the spread of this disease is staggering 

 

The number of infected is easily in the thousands if not tens of thousands as of now, we simply aren't testing enough suspected cases
