Which is the strongest of these Three India Test Dream teams

Continuing with this glut of all time dream teams threads, here's a different take, got the idea from the writer Ayaz Memon on twitter

Dividing Indian cricket into 3 eras of approx 30 years- 1930 to 1960; 1961 to 1990 ; 1991 to 2020... here are three teams, who would win in a hypothetical 5 day triangular

Team A 1930 to 1960;

Pankaj Roy, Vijay Merchant, Vijay Manjrekar, Vijay Hazare, Polly Umrigar, Vinoo Mankad, Dattu Phadkar, Naren Tamhane, L Amar Singh, Mohammed Nissar, Subhash Gupte

Team B 1961 to 1990 ;

Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Sardesai, Mohinder Amarnath, Dilip Vengsarkar, Gundappa Vishwanath, Kapil Dev, Syed Kirmani, Karsan Ghavri, Bishen Bedi, Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chandrashekar

Team C 1991 to 2020..

Virendar Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, M S Dhoni, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Anil Kumble, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Shami

Stacked the teams with spinners, it being a home series... the modern day side look strongest, though the spin attack of team B is too good...team A not to be sniffed at either good new ball duo and spin bowlers, but batting could let them down

Is this even a question, india pre 80s was the weakest among a handful of teams, India post 90s was always around the top 3 teams.

Yes we need to respect the contributions and the legacy of players of the bygone era but cricketers post 83 WC even though we had some joke of a players in the 90s has always been at a different level.

Which still makes it a potentially pretty good contest between teams b and c. Particularly when you have a team with the good batsmen of the 80s, Kapil and the great spinners of the 60s and 70s...

if its a home series umesh yadav shud play ahead of Zak.....umesh yadav in home conditions has an avg below 25

Also ill pick Pujara ahead of dravid.....pujara avg almost 60 at home dravid i think avg 51

Team C any day. Need to include Bumrah as well. Bumrah any day over Zak.

This being a series in India Bumrah hasn't done enough to merit being selected,  though yes it is likely that he will be in a few years - hopefully!!

Also not sure it's that clear that team c is the best, given the spin bowling on the B team, and batting on home wickets too.

Yeah good calls, though Zak gives a left arm angle. Dravid better than Puj even with their home records

No pujara has a better home record n pyjara has played on some very tough wkts at home.  Yea overseas dravid is miles ahead of pujara

For that angle diff is huge i think zak avg at home is 35 and under 25 .....huge diff

I think Shastri has a good case for a spot in that B team. Drop Prasanna maybe. Shastri and Amarnath can bowl a bit between them.

Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Sardesai, Mohinder Amarnath, Dilip Vengsarkar, Gundappa Vishwanath, Ravi Shastri, Kapil Dev, Syed Kirmani, Karsan Ghavri, Bishen Bedi, Bhagwat Chandrashekar

Shastri could be surprised by that too!

A pre 90s vs post 90s

Gavaskar > Sehwag (top openers for both teams. Though Sehwag will be the key difference b/w the two teams in subcon)

Merchant/Mankad = GG (Mankad will bowl too)

Amarnath = Dravid/Pujara (Amarnath can bowl too)

Hazare < Tendulkar

Vishwanath =< Kohli

Engineer = Dhoni

Kapil = Zaheer
Amar Singh (AR)/Gupte/Bedi >= Jadeja
Parsanna >= Ashwin

Md Nissar = Shami

Chandra > Kumble

How's amarnath/gundappa better than dravid/Kohli? Neither are nisaar as good as Shami or even amar singh/bedi as good as Jaddu.

Team B spin bowling would not be too effective against those top Indian batsmen. They have played better spinners than those in B team. Two teams have won series in India when fab 4 played, both because of their fast bowlers. Team B lacks that. Team C has good pace attack. I wouldn't even play 2 spinners for Team C, only Jaddu and three pacers who will use reverse swing, Shami, Umesh, Zak/Bumrah.  Don't think team B batsmen will be troubled by spin much. Regarding Bumrah, it doesn't matter whether he has yet played in India or not, I will still have him.

I guess you need to read the post again to see the direction of the signs

Nissar is considered among the fastest and best bowlers that Ind has produced. Since he did not get the opportunity to play a lot of cricket, I would give him the benefit and put him in the top bracket on potential
