Lloyd (c)

DuJon

Marshall

Garner

Walsh

Ambrose

--------

Discuss.

Went for Gayle instead of Greenidge , Richardson being the other contender, because his explosiveness and bowling.

Other options include drop Chanderpaul and 5 man pace attack with say Holding in. Thought about Carl Hooper too.

Unlike tests I give ATG Aus the edge against this team. Unfortunate that Kanhai, Sobers didn't play much ODI cricket.

Though SR may not show Greendige had the extra gear that Haynes lacked. Him and Gayle can be a devastating combo.

Hooper for me, better match-winner than Chanders and WI could use his bowling.

Greenidge is an AT world 11 level opener! He was among the top ODI batsmen in the early years of the format.

Considering current players as well:

Greenidge

Haynes/Gayle

Lara

Richards

Lloyd

Hope/Pooran (WK)

Russell

Roberts

Ambrose

Holding

Garner

With Greenidge, Lara & Richards + the bowling attack, the WI 11 is as good as any top tier AT11

The SR reflect the challenges in ODIs in those days - 50, 55, and 60 overs matches, red ball, no power play, etc.

In an ODI vs. Ind in 1983/4, he hit 5 6s. IIRC, After Hirwani took that 16 wkts in a test in India, Greenidge burst his bubble by hitting 9 6s or so when Ind toured WI

Perfect, bowling team replace Chanders with Richie Richardson. I will go with Greenidge for aggression over Gayle. IVAR can roll a few spinners as well

why to pick dujon as keeper when u have options like Shai hope n pooran avl now

My 15

  1. Gayle
  2. hope
  3. viv
  4. Lara
  5. Hooper
  6. LLyod
  7. Russell
  8. ambrose
  9. Garner
  10. Roberts
  11. holding
  12. pooran
  13. haynes
  14. Bravo
  15. Cottreell (for left arm angle and he has done well till now)

U can open with - Lara, haynes, greenidge and make Pooran keep in middle

Or u can open with hope and play others in middle

Viv, gayle, Hooper can do spinners job

Interesting thanks.

Did know that Greenidge was destructive on his day, but yes the SR swayed me.

Dont think Hoopers bowling would be needed with Gayle and Viv (all three being offies too) and Chanders was much more reliable batsmen.

Saying that if you're 90's kid you have a soft spot for Carl Hooper :)

They lack a spinner

Lance Gibbs has 300+ wickets for a spinner in his generation. That should be good enough to find him a spot in wi AT X1. Wonder why he gets omitted.

No I know this is a odi thread. However I have never seen his name mentioned on most AT WI X1 sides either.

reason being their pacers, its hard to drop one but playing spinners means dropping 2 and then guys like sobers n viv give them spin

Sobers not sure if he picked most of his wickets with spin or pace but Richards is a typical run of the mill part timer. I won’t even say he is a batting  allrounder like Sachin. At best he is a Mark Waugh level spinner. You don’t go with that as an option in SC.

Our current lot would fold up against Richards than the ATG WI pace attack but that’s a different debate. However these day’s 4 fast bowlers on SC will not work. You still need a competent spinner.

If more spinners are required based on conditions they have options to play Naraine, Benn, Harper (an excellent fielder too), and so on.

But in general, these spinners won’t be considered over bowlers like Garner, Ambrose, Roberts and Holding. Even quality bowlers like Marshall (rated by many as the greatest pace bowler of AT in Tests) and Walsh, who are better than many pace bowlers from other countries, are not making the ODI 11. If a team has such a pool of pace bowlers, it will leverage on it.
