Current Points Table

TEAM M W L PT NRR
MI 10 7 3 14 1.448
DC 11 7 4 14 0.434
RCB 10 7 3 14 0.182
KKR 11 6 5 12 -0.476
KXIP 11 5 6 10 -0.103
SRH 11 4 7 8 0.029
RR 11 4 7 8 -0.62
CSK 11 3 8 6 -0.733

To make it to the playoffs,

In great position (Target 18 points, if not more, w/ 2 wins in remaining 4 games):

  • MI - remaining games v RR, RCB, DC & SRH
  • RCB - remaining games v CSK, MI, SRH & DC

In good position (Target 16 points & maybe better NRR w/ 1 win in remaining 3 games):

  • DC - remaining games v SRH, MI & RCB

DC could be losing momentum so needs to play better

In decent position (Target 14 to 16 points):

  • KKR - remaining games v K11, CSK & RR
  • K11 - remaining games v KKR, RR & CSK

Both of them can qualify if DC remains on 14 and these two get 16

Need Voodoo (Target 14 points):

  • RR - remaining games v MI, K11 & KKR
  • SRH - remaining games v DC, RCB & MI

:mi: :rcb: :dc: are almost certain to take 3 out of 4 spots..

considering the current NRR , :kkr:  needs to win 2 more games  ..

:hs: and :kp: are still in the race ..

:rr: is out because of their poor NRR ..

Appears as if you looked at the points table, not considered the opponents in matches remaining

RR v MI tomorrow. For RR to qualify:

  • Win all its games (points 14)
  • KKR loses all its games (points 12)
  • K11 wins 1 game, i.e. beats KKR and loses to RR & CSK (points 12)
  • SRH wins not more than 2 games (points 8 to 12)

Top 4 in above scenario - MI, RCB, DC & RR  .... In a scenario where some of the other teams are on similar points, it would need a better NRR.

If RR loses tomorrow, max available points after that game = 12 (so ....)

Top 4 will be:-

Mumbai

Delhi

Bangalore

Punjab

This is not a prediction thread but on what teams need to do to get into playoffs

It may mean team x having to win 1 game or team y having to win all its games

CSK v RCB

RCB lost an opportunity to move to the top. Probably played "laptop" cricket based on what happened in the last game (and being influenced by "matchups") rather than playing per the conditions.

Interestingly, now both RCB & DC face similar opponents in their remaining games i.e. MI, SRH & DC/RCB

After today's game v RR, MI too would face similar opponents - RCB, DC & SRH, therefore

One group of matches will involve DC, MI, RCB & SRH .... The other group of matches will be among CSK, K11, KKR & RR

The 8 teams are now divided into two groups:

A: MI, RCB, DC & SRH

B: RR, K11, KKR & CSK

If it goes as per IPL script: the last games in group B i.e. RR v KKR & K11 v CSK (out but can play spoilsport) could decide the 4th place (if not 2 - possible if one of the top 3 teams remains on 14 as they play v each other and SRH, which may cause an upset) :dontknow:

On some thread, I said, MI are the probable champs and K11 are dark horses.that was before first match between RCB and Punjab. Since then tournament has come long way forward. I still th k11 has a very good side, so does MI.

If tournament is rigged then RCB will win the trophy.

Above were my predictions.

Looks like the script of the IPL is Punjab's turn around.. Wonder if they will win the trophy at this rate.. Will be hard to breach MI and RCB though

From the top 4

MI, DC, KxiP and RCB I'd say that RCB are a few levels below the other 3 in terms of team strength.

Even if SRH wins all 3 and be at 14, they need to win big to win on NRR. Plus KXIP/KKR will have to lose both their matches or be at 14 to lose out on NRR.

They don't have the firepower to win it big. That way, RR has a better chance with 4 big hitters up top and followed by Tewatiya. They can better their NRR with big wins.

Top3 need at least one more win in their next three games to qualify.

MI - RCB, DC, SRH - Need 1 win, Will win 2 of these 3 - 18 pts

DC - SRH, MI, RCB - - Need 1 win, Will win 1 of 3 - 16 pts

RCB - MI, SRH, DC - Need 1 win, Will win 2 of these 3 - 18 pts

KXIP - RR, CSK  - if they win one they will be 14 pts, make sure they beat RR and lose to CSK

KKR - CSK, RR - if they lose to RR, and win CSK - 14 pts. Their NRR is worse that KXIP

RR - KXIP, KKR - Will win one of them will go to 10 pts, they have to win both and be on 14 pts with better NRR

SRH - DC, RCB, MI - Need to win all 3 matches, tough to beat all three table toppers and trump on NRR with 14 pts.

Pool A - MI, DC, RCB needing 1 win

Pool B - KXIP, KKR - Need two wins for clear , but can scrape through with 1 win

Pool C - RR, SRH needing all wins, RR is capable of doing it, SRH to beat all three table toppers is a tough script to sell.

Yeah, I have listed out the paths that each team would need to target in the OP .... May the teams that utilize their potential well make it
