I was also annoyed at that blunder by the umpire at that time but frankly Punjab never had the bowling attack to win the tournament. Shami, Jordan, run of the mill bowler & two rookie leg spinners. That they were still in contention post those 2-3 botches is a remarkable achievement.

Had to get it out of the system, look at complaint, it said it might cost them a playoff spot, this was willfully done brainfade of umpires that can cost a place in close tournaments, fans will rant out. Chutiya of an umpire

not pointed at you bhai. The management should move on and focus on fixing issues.

Hopefully preity and the other owners  Are not going to undo everything again

They have a great management team I mean Kumble,Flower and Jonty that’s a dream team right there.

Focus on some core issues players, fix some combo issues and they should be a prime

contender

It is comical how sports (esp. the level of desperation) is followed in India

Blaming (and even abusing on twitter) an umpire for a short run when

  • K11 failed to take 1 run in 3 balls in that match v DC
  • Numerous times its batsmen have let the team down including showing inability to accelerate at the right time to bat the other team out (and playing dumb strokes)
  • Unoptimized team selection
  • Benefitted from a win v MI in superover when MI failed to score only 6 runs
  • Benefited from a fluke win v SRH
  • Benefitted from dropped catches including two of KL by Kohli, 1 v RR where Gayle got 99, and so on
  • There can be misfields and when batsmen can fail to convert 1s into 2s

But it is the umpire's fault (when no one dwells on those) and when teams have suffered from far greater consequences including player given out or not out in error over the years in sports .... There are also occasions when wides and no balls (waist high ones) are not given

Here are the players who have dropped the most number of catches so far in the tournament:

  1. Prithvi Shaw (DC): 3
  2. Devdutt Padikal (RCB): 3
  3. Tom Curran (RR): 3
  4. Manish Pandey (SRH): 3

Now take a look at most expensive drops of the season till now (in terms of runs cost to the fielding team):

Batsman Fielder Cost
1 Mayank Agarwal (KXIP) Prithvi Shaw (DC) 46
2 Faf du Plessis (CSK) Riyan Parag (RR) 27
3 KL Rahul (KXIP) Virat Kohli (RCB) 26
4 KL Rahul (KXIP) Virat Kohli (RCB) 24
5 Kevin Pollard (MI) Pawan Negi (RCB) 22
6 Jonny Bairstow (SRH) Aaron Finch (RCB) 21

50% of the batsmen in the list above are from K11
