They benched him last year when they should've backed him.

He played in the later stages though iirc. Anyways one shouldn't be guaranteed a spot just by reputation. If they are underperforming and someone else is better then drop them, but keep working to fix their issues in the nets.

Read in one of the interviews that SKY and Kishan's role is to take it till 12th over and then go really hard. From 13th over on, either they score quick runs or get out and handover to Pollard/Pandyas. This is great role clarity for numbers 3/4. But you need the hitting quality of Pollard, HPandya and insurance of KPandya at 5,6,7 to have such a template.

Indian team simply doesn't have a Pollard/Russell level player to follow this template. We have always been relying on one of the top order batsman to get set and go beserk in the slog. As a matter of fact, only 2 international sides can boast of such a strong 5/6/7 - England and WI - to follow the MI template.

Despite IPL, such lower order hitters haven't really come through. Until we have a couple of awesome hitters, the plan wouldn't change even if a different coach or captain take over.

we already have hardik/krunal.. what more do we need to do play aggressively? but no.. they will run twos to get to subpar score.

Our T20 batting line-up should be

Rohit

Rahul

Kohli

SKY

Kishan

H Pandya

Our 4,5,6 should be cut, copy and paste from MI.

I would say keep Samson and Mayank , Kohli dhould stop playing t20 and focus on 50 over and test.

That decision will ultimately come down to Kohli. Having said that, even Dhawan can't be ignored now as he has 600+ runs to his name in this year's IPL.

Rohit

Dhawan( backup- Mayank)

Rahul

Kohli

Samson

Pandya

If they want to continue with Dhawan as opener, this can be our top 6 but most likely someone or other keeps getting injured so Iyer or SKY or Pandey(need to move on from him) stay in reckoning.

Dhawan can score this once i a blue moon performance after playing for 10 years but he surely doesn't belong in our t20 lineup ....... Mayank, Sky and Samson( to some extend) definetely deserve a chance ahead of dhawan, Iyer and Manish pandey.
