Why won't UP team make money?

How can ticket sales be judged without there even being a team.

Cities with the largest urban population have more spending power, hence they make the most money. In 2016, Pune made more in ticket revenue than even Kolkata, Hyderabad, Rajkot and Mohali did. A team from UP isn't going to challenge that.

Ticket sales is just one line of income for ipl teams. Teams recieve money from sponsors and from bcci .

Which they're going to get anyway. But if you're looking at a difference of between Rs. 20-30 crores, besides all the money you save on travel and logistics, what reason would they have to choose the weaker option? They aren't doing this for charity.

Can't BCCI change prices for different cities? Like in monopoly, Kanpur is 5000 but pune is 16000

That's upto the franchises, not BCCI.

Either way, a 35,000 seat Pune stadium is drawing more than a 66,000 seat Eden Gardens and a 55,000 seat Hyderabad stadium. There's no stadium as big in UP and you also can't price higher too high and expect general public will pay.

Lucknow has a 50000 stadium. If UP has a pro league football and kabaddi team based here so why not cricket?

So it's smaller than both Kolkata and Hyderabad stadiums.

Having a football and/or kabaddi team doesn't mean you'll get a cricket team also. This is not some "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" offer. The owners are different for different leagues and they all have their own reasons for investing in a certain team.

According to this site, Lucknow had sold 25,000 tickets (half the capacity of the stadium) for Rs. 5 crore for a match between India and South Africa earlier this year. How much would it sell for 7 IPL matches? Rs. 13-15 crores? That would put Lucknow among the bottom-most venues in terms of ticket revenue in IPL.

Oh god not Pune again. May be if we expand IPL to 12-14 teams it can be revisited.

This is my order of the next potential IPL teams.

Gujarat

UP-Bihar

Kerala

Pune

Jammu- Kashmir

North East
