TNAmarkFromIndia Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 The Mirror has reported that Sanjiv Goenka Group are interested and might bid for the ninth IPL team. A few others are also in the fray. The report also added that there is speculation that two teams could be added. Pune is also in the fray. Sanjiv Goenka Group are not new to having teams in IPL. Previously, they had bought Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) for IPL 2016 and 2017. The team was introduced in the IPL along with Gujarat Lions after Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended for two years. MS Dhoni had led RPS in 2016 before Smith guided the team to the final in 2017.

Besides that Pune isn't even a big city or has any Cricketing legacy so don't know why businessmen are so obsessed with having a Pune Franchise. Fans in Pune already have the option to support Mumbai Indians. Ahmedabad IPL team owned by Adanis will be the next IPL team and another one hopefully will be from Kanpur thus making it a solid 10 Teams competition. Hopefully no termination and banning of teams after that.

RPS because it was only meant to exist until Rajasthan and Chennai returned from their ban. Kochi because of money problems or something IDK.

IPL has led to lot of corruption in Indian cricket from top to bottom that is for sure.Other than few players we cannot really trust anyone in the IPL.

Because if I'm not wrong, Pune makes more in ticket sales than all IPL host cities, even the big ones. Unlike other associations, Maharashtra Cricket Association gives away very few free tickets to sponsors and VIPs, so the host team makes a lot more in gate revenue than any other city that they could pick. Not to mention logistical factors, easy connectivity, infrastructure etc.

Ticket sales is just one line of income for ipl teams. Teams recieve money from sponsors and from bcci . Besides it is brand building exercise and most of the money for advertising goes into it. Big name cricketers get associated by connection which the team owners could not individually afford. coffee_rules 1
