I would even like to try Rahul Chahar instead of Chahal. Chahar is taller, gets extra bounce too.

Hardik can bowl 4-5 overs when team needs it as shown in today's game. Hence we should look to groom a proper all-rounder now. Need to move on from Jadeja now.

 

Who are the proper all rounders we have who can bat at 7 & bowl 5-6 overs atleast in ODIs?

 

1. Rahul Tewatia

2. Abdul Samad( future probable)

3. Krunal Pandya

 

I think only these three. Washington is same as Jadeja and not cut for no.7 batting. Vijay Shankar is not suited at no.7 and Shivam Dube is not suited for ODIs now. 

 

Now among the three, Samad needs time. Tewatia and Krunal can be tried at no.7.

I don't think any of those guys are of international class.

Samad isn't an all-rounder. Bowling isn't even as good as Raina.

Krunal batting against pace is worse then anyone in India and his bowling is about variation which works great in t20 but wont in ODI , Krunal is best kept till t20 

Samad is the guy but for that to Pandya has to get back to his full bowling fitness 

 

As of now tewatia deserves a shot 

 

If u want to consider shankar best make him bat at 4 , he plays fast bowling better then Iyer......although he wud not add more fire power to this lineup but atleast will give utility

Leg spin problem (strangely he plays off spin damn well)

Short ball problem even worse then iyer

Bit of seam swing (he wont get that at 5 or 6 but on days of collapse he will) 

 

These many factors is also the reason he always has up n down IPL. Im quite sure he wont last in international cricket

What about Nitish Rana ?

He plays for Delhi and early morning Ranji games in winters are tough for batting in Delhi but he still has impressive FC avg.

Can bowl a bit.

If Iyer proves to be such a dud against short stuff I see no harm in trying him in middle order.

We have got so many spin hacks 

Samad also needs to prove more but his hitting is good against pace.

 

If we play Shankar at 4, KL Rahul at 5, then we can play Pant/Kishan at 6 and Pandya at 7. But I am not sure about Pant/Kishan for the current time being.

 

I will continue with what we have now. Atleast Pandya has shown that he can bowl 4-5 overs when needed so sixth bowling option is not an issue.

Yeah that's what I said his hitting is good against pace but he needs to show that he can play those 60(40) type knocks also because in ODIs, he will not have to just come and hit a few overs in the end. Can be stuck in a tricky 70 ball 90 chase and finish off games from there.

Yes a far better fielder and can hold the bat to , he shud have been on this tour specially in t20is

Over rates! With 4 pacers, Kohli will be banned most of the times. He would soon go the Dhoni way and pack the side with medium pacers and spinners to speed up the over rate. Achche din for Ashwin, Axar or anyone who can bowl his overs quickly in LOIs

england plays so many seamers now they are looking to replace moeen with curran , its not that we have some akthar who will comeplete one over by the time some one else will complete 2

The captain has a habbit of chasing the ball and moving the fielders to where runs are conceded! Never going to get the over rates better with such a reactive leadership

Shankar adds nothing to the team, showed it during the WC. Better to pick a specialist batsman than him.

 

Plus with all the injuries, it's clear his body cannot take the load of bowling.
