Rahul will open, playing mayank, gill and shaw today was to identify who is the second. At this point i would go with Mayank despite him not scored much. One of saini or siraj will be 3rd seamer with Ashwin lone spinner.

Looks like KL, Mayank, Puj, Virat, Rahane,pandu,saha,ash,Shami,bumrah,yadav (1st test)... replace Virat with Gill in the second... and if Mayank doesnt perform, replace with Shaw

Kinda lame that rahane sends Vihari before him. In the absence of Virat, he should step up and take the 4th spot but he still prefers the cushy 5th

Rahul is a back-up. They're not going to start the series with an opener who hasn't played redball cricket in 18 months. It'll be Mayank with gill/shaw

Mayank is the only guaranteed opener among this lot. Rahul hasn't done anything to be first choice opener.

Nah, Rahul won't play in the first match and that is why they aren't playing him in this match. 

Of course Rahul will be a part of the eleven from 2nd match onwards and will probably bat at number 4.

Why wud rahul not play any of the practice match if he's going to start? His test performance  has been bad and you pick him to play first test that without any practice? That would be the dumbest decision in a long time

Bumrah and Shami are playing. 

 

Rahane is playing too.

 

Pujara and Ashwin played the last match.

 

Kohli rarely plays practice matches.

 

I don't think Rahul will play the first test.

How can Rahul be dropped for one of Mayank/Shaw or Gill. Like others even his last red ball cricket was in mar '20.

What drop?? Rahul wasn't even in squad for nz tour. Mayank has been very good for India.
