R Ashwin - It's now Time to deliver

Plenty of turn we saw from Lyon today...  So expectation are high from our senior spinner Ashwin who has sucked badly in SENA.  He was in good form in IPL & getting batsman out on defence as well. Aussies have LHB in their lineup.  Can he deliver finally?  India is counting on him

Ashwin sucking on SENA is a myth. Sure he doesn’t have the same kind of ATG legendary performances he has at home but apart from 1-2 tests were everyone sucked and he might have been the worst or equally bad , he has been a good supporting act. I remember the first test last tour were he got 6 wickets- 3 each and it was a great restrained performance where the fast bowlers were dominating.

 

He set up a couple of games in England and SA too which our batting f’ed up

Where he has played at least 3 tests .... so far 

 

In Aus: Avg 48, SR 95

In Eng: Avg 33, SR 75

In SA: Avg 46, SR 102

 

If he does not "deliver", Ind could look for other options esp. overseas

he did alright last time in adelaide. Having khawaja-shaun march, 2 lefties in MO helped of course. Hopefully he can still trouble young players labu/head/green.. 

 

If he sucks in this match though, India should look at kuldeep for MCG test

Long way to go, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. This thread more suited for day 4 or 5.

 

First we need to play at least a session tomorrow, otherwise Labu/Smith/Head will bat us out of the game. Then hope that quicks deliver especially under lights, if you rely on Ashwin to take bulk of wickets in their 1st innings that means they are set to take a 100+ runs lead, match over. 

 

Anyway I do hope he delivers with the bat tomorrow. That should be the primary focus.

Agreed..  Aussies have Head & Wade this time.  Ashwin feasts on lefties.  Let's see high hopes from him coz of what he did there last time

Good bowling by Ashwin. Took the most highly rated test batsman's wicket (Smith) and did not allow middle order to build partnerships.Dismissed Head as well as Green. One of the few Indian players who excelled in this test.
