I'm hearing Congress is asking for 40 seats. Stalin should just kick those fucckkrrs out. Don't need no more Dilli buggers demanding the sky here.

Anything more than 20 -25 is a waste.

25 it is.

Calling it now. If MNM decides to take it alone, Kamal Haasan will be a very decisive factor in urban areas like Chennai and Coimbatore(just like in Parliament 2019) and splitting it in many ways. Highly unlikely but I hope he wins atleast one seat. Always welcome parties based in TN.

Ok. But on being bipolar if you look at BJP+Congress in the lok sabha its between 280-360 seats out of 543 seats for the past 4-5 election cycles. So on average 35-50% of seats have been local outfits. If anything the congress falling away has resulted in more space being occupied by regional outfits. India is far from getting bipolar. The BJP is emerging as one pole with regional outfits the other pole.

Its good that you mention Maharashtra.  It has a balance of national parties (146 seats in assembly) and regional parties (rest). This is also the same at the national level in the lok sabha. I will accept biases exist. I am sure biases exist in TN as well when AIADMK preferring the Kongu belt and DMK Northern TN and Chennai. I have a friend from Madurai who says the city is always neglected by both outfits as its in the south. He tells me that everything in TN is Chennai centric. This is same situation in Maharashtra where many people from Marathwada and Viderbha think politics are Mumbai-Pune centric. Ultimately if you want to reflect the true diversity states need to be cut into smaller fragments. Otherwise even in big states (such as TN and Maharashtra), no matter who is ruling biases will continue to exist with regions ignored. The Shiv sena have no real base in Viderbha and are a mumbai centric party. The region suffers as a result.

The concept of unity in diversity. I feel regional parties are not the only options for reflecting that diversity. Ultimately many regional outfits are based on single caste based entity. National parties are the same but encompass many more diverse castes. There is more diversity and internal democracy within national parties at a state level than the regional outfits. Take the BJP unit in TN, we have had a woman who was president now we have a SC. The person in charge for seat sharing apart from Shah is a Reddy.

If you think about it,  The 91 reforms (from which TN benefitted) would not be possible had PVNR not got a near full mandate. With a fragmented nation , it would be much much harder to make decisions of any kind. This is my thought.

The DMK actually had many ministers in the CG from 1999 to 2013 without reciprocating power sharing in TN. If both TN based major parties can leverage their power in the CG because of arithmatic then clearly some other regions miss out. Ultimately there are finite resources.

These are my points. But in summary I do accept the points you make. Especially the ones about biases.

While I accept some of your points, I don't agree on BJP or Congress' local outfits being more diverse. They do it for namesake for example the BJP TN woman president was a joke. Her gaffes were memeworthy. There are some areas where even ADMK/DMK won't win. that;s why there are more parties such as PMK, VCK, etc to fill in the gap. Ultimately no matter who you are, there will be some complaints of a certain area not getting enough attention. That's part of life and politics.

Call me pessimistic but I don't see any improvement in the political arena. So all I want is preserve the current state of political arena where everyone can atleast get some representation in theory atleast. I can only think about negatives when it comes to politics and a two party system is dangerous and many in US, Uk are not happy with it either.

I don't know about your political reading but there is a quote about power. It goes something like this - Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. So by keeping more parties in the reckoning and more regional and representing every caste, creed, etc we have some control over the power structure as opposed to a two party system where power is concentrated in a few hands and an oligarchy is created. I'm more worried about power in a few hands more than the normal people themselves who I get along with ok.

Never understood how DMK gets any Hindu votes. Their main leader ridiculed Hindu gods openly, yet it shows the tolerance or "weak memory" of Hindus.

TN has heavy anti incumbency in every election basically juvenile electorate that keeps voting either right to center admk or left to center dmk alternately, hoping for better deal with the upcoming leader in either side.

This. It used to alternate back and forth in the 90s and 00s until JJ got it right.

Here? You mean Telangana and Karnataka. No-one interested in hellhole weather place chennai. There are many Tamils settled in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad.... plenty in my neighborhood in delhi.

Yet I see many northies not just in Chennai but in worse "hellholes" all over the state. If you see the net migration, its always more northies moving in rather than southies moving out. If your places are so heaven like, why don't you just stay put there.

The UK has a multi party system. From 2010-2015 the UK had a coalition government. Its not as bipolar as you think.

Tamilisai is actually doing a very good job as governor of Telangana. Its exactly why she was given extra charge of Puducherry. She was proven to be highly competent. The big issue BJP faces be it TN or Kerala is the lack of friendly media. Most of her statements were twisted to a point which made her look stupid. The gaffes as you mention it were a result of time pressure. Reporters used all the tricks in the world while asking her questions. She had a mandate to build BJP infra in the state. She did just that. When she became president the BJP had a part office in only 100 urban constituencies. By the time she was done each of the 234 segments have proper dedicated party office with regular office bearers. To the casual observer she may have been a joke.  But the BJP insiders know just what she delivered. I hope you agree that Modi and Shah are not stupid to reward non performers.

If you believe that bipolar politics is not the solution then my only point is that you should also believe that bipolar politics of TN are not the solution as well. DMK and AIADMK will end up contesting around 80%+ of seats in their alliance. Smaller regional outfits have never been in power in TN. A party like the PMK has had union ministers but no minister in TN despite being on the winning side. If you agree that these smaller regional outfits too should be part of state gov then fair enough. Though i disagree I can respect the consistency in your stance.

People are not going to settle there. It is just for employment... mutual benefit for both the employer and the employee...but after the employment gets done, people will return...but Tamils settle in other parts even after their employment...maybe they are also fed up of Chennai weather.

There are gujarati, punjabi, pathans and marwaris communities from time immemorial in Chennai. many Hindi speakers call Chennai home. There was a Tamil debate hoster (a la Arnab) called Pandey who grew up in Chennai but is of northern heritage. There are several. These are from the past. I'm not even accounting for the labor migration of recent years. Chennai weather is muggy and humid but the people are more warmer than any northie has encountered. That;s the reason they stayed.

One of the gaffes by Tamilisai was introducing a Ram rath in Chennai  Nobody showed up for the event. This maybe a northern tradition but not that popular in TN or for that matter south India. The famous deities here are Shiva, Murugan, Ganesh, Amman (Parvati), Vishnu. So what would you say about Tamilisai's knowledge about TN customs. She is a good businesswoman going by her family who have done well with their hard work and full props to them. She may have also done some work for BJP but this thing was very funny and it stuck with me.

I have a muslim friend who was saying the same thing about RaGa that he is a good politician and BJP created a bad opinion on him through the media. While that was laugh worthy, so is this case of Tamilisai

And about TN politics itself, I already said there are other parties but they are not as big as the other two. I can also make the case that why ADMK/DMK are not getting enough ministers in the centre with BJP/Congress ruling the roost. Now you understand that these are the two national parties are dominant right. the same situation is played out in TN with another set of parties. What I'm trying to get at is, if lets say people come to the conclusion that both BJP and Congress are not good enough at some point and the regional parties get together to form a third bloc, there is a chance that this third bloc can win thereby offering a different govt to the dominant parties.

Mccoy, mccoy ... mccoy  Couple of things

1) I already said it is highly unlikely that mnm will win a seat. I said they will split votes in urban centres and they will do just that. That being said I don't mind MNM proving me wrong and win a MLA or two.

There are voters like your friend in every election cycle and MNM will indeed capture some of these undecided wanting a change voters. Plus Kamal, has a decent fan base cutting across all age groups. I won't write him off just yet. He can split votes in urban centres.

2) I don't hate Sennai. Why would i hate sennai ?? I just don't like CSK that's it. Why would I hate TN Capital?

3) You have got to stop wooing me for to support CSK!. I'm taken man. :--D. That being said I can't expect MI to win again. It is impossible plus these new rules announced today have thrown a wrench in the works.

P.S: BTW, I almost forgot, Your friend here made a bet with me saying that if DMK won all 3 MP seats in 2019 election he'd stop supporting CSK. It's time for him to keep his word.

Again self-bragging, it's interesting to see how naturally does it come to you guys...let others say that Tamils are warm, I would be happy...anyways, to me, on this website, Tamils seem to be the least chill. Few examples in this thread.

The only turncoat here is you pal who just called your own (state people) electorate as juvenile. You're the one who is shamelessly pro-bjp on everything here irrespective of the damage they have done to the state. There are lot of fools like you who mix ipl cricket for politics and looses sight on what is important.

BTW, you're an NRI aren't you??. That would make a lot of sense as how you're out of touch with everything else here in the state. Do us all a favor guys like you left the country now stay out of it for good. I have no patience and nothing more to say for NRI nut jobs like you.
