Next pacer to debut in Tests for us has to be Sandeep Warrier. Had a wonderful FC season last year, played for India A in NZ, did fairly okay and could have been closer to a national selection this year if FC cricket was played. 

 

 

Warrier's ability to extract life out of flat pitches has deteriorated.  (  Both Saini and Siraj have this quality ).  

 

Plus he is almost 30 and still not a Team India hopeful.

 

It is better to invest in Prasidh, Mavi and Tyagi.

 

My next pick is Prasidh.

A like for like replacement maybe , only time will tell.
I would have loved to see the left armer dig some heels for the sharp looking Ashwin.
If at all one would have wanted to see Natarajan debut, it will be in a Test down under!

I don't think there was any other option.Saini had to play in Sydney . I am hoping he does well.

they picked Tyagi Porel as net bowlers. Porel left due to injury. 
 

all remained were Natarajan , Shardul and Tyagi as Chahar from ODI s  had been sent back home. So the question of selecting Avesh and Prasidh does not even hold ground.. 

 

 

Prasidh or any other preferred 5-day match pacer could have been sent to Australia with Rohit.

I don't think Prasidh is ready.He needs to play full season of domestic cricket before getting called for any Indian teams.

Injuries are one thing. 

 

Second, and I am totally speculating here, but for many of these guys (especially fast bowlers), timing is key.  They work their butts off, slogging in domestics year after year after year, to stay in contention.  But when they realize that (a) it's not going to happen unless they go into another gear which requires even more killing themselves with no guarantees, and (b) they can make a decent living off their IPL wages, they probably lose their motivation and relax.  And I don't blame them one bit for it and love that the IPL gives them that opportunity.

Now Saini is comfortably better than likes of Nattu & Shardul or any other we have at present.  Saini has different skill set than others.  He lacks too much lateral movement but hits the deck Hard & can be used like Kiwis use Wagner although Saini will be quicker than Wagner. 

Saini will be a big threat to Australia in Gabba..  That & Perth are the only two places in Planet where Saini can unleash his full potential.  Tailor made pitches for him.
