Rightarmfast Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 Like I said earlier, it will be Saini. Media reports are more PR promotions. We will find out tomorrow. RAZPOR 1

We are talking about getting a bowler included in a team who was not part of it and ignoring the existing member. The team will have to many uncomfortable questions to answer if Saini is not picked.

Id say those were correct moves. Incase of Kohli, it wasnt a replacement. Kohli wasnt available. Comparing to Saini are 2 totally different scenarios. We are also talking about addition of Gill, Pant and jadeja wo were better bat than their replacement, thus balancing out Kohli's absence. Edited January 6, 2021 by Rightarmfast Suhaan 1
vishalvirsingh Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 I hope Saini is Picked. Actually I was surprised big time to see Siraj playing in the previous Test Match itself. Had Saini Played , he would have picked wickets and he would have become a fixture. Only trundler who has played in Test matches in recent times have been BHUVI. That time bhuvi was swinging the ball big time and it was almost impossible to ignore him. secondly bhuvi also touched 140K some times so calling him a trundler then was wrong too. Kohli was clear to pick ishant shammi umesh boom as his first choice Pacers and now umesh is getting challenged by Siraj and Possibly Saini. I am quite sure they would not play shardul/nattu unless shardul or nattu are doing some thing truly special in Nets. saini will be the fastest pacer in the test if he plays and I will be surprised if he does not get a bagful of wickets. sandeep and RAZPOR 1 1

I too said that they were correct moves ... And I wanted them too. But we are discussing whether these were obvious moves or not by this TM. If we had lost at the MCG and Jaddu had failed with the bat then the possibility of stern criticism for replacing a great specialist batsman with an all-rounder was always there. And if Gill was perceived to be an obvious better batsman than Shaw then he would have played in the first test itself. And during 2nd test itself, quite a few commentators were criticizing the dropping of Saha ... so, it is not an unanimous thought process. In a nutshell ... although these moves were good ones ... they were not the default ones or obvious ones. Edited January 6, 2021 by express bowling Suhaan, RAZPOR and Forever Indian 3
vishalvirsingh Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 I would go ahead and say that picking a yorker specialist who bowls 130 to 140K at best in Australia and a 130 to 142K little swing generating Pacer( shardul) for tests was a wrong decision. They should have sent Prasidh or AVESH Khan as i understand they are premier INDIA A Pacers who have the correct Pace and can bowl upto 145K. if shardul is bowling very well and in his 140+ range most of the time , then It was OK to pick him as Shammi or umesh's replacement. Nattu could be a gem in T20 and even in ODI but i dont think he will succeed ever in tests as Batsman are not in a hurry to score runs. they can pick up what ever runs they get from him and at his 130 to 137K Pace , do you think the edges will carry till slips?? I am very strongly recommending to pick only 140K+ Pacers in TESTS.

I think Saini vs Siraj battle was always going to favour Siraj as he has better FC & list A numbers than anybody in India at present. Plus he was impressive in Warm ups. I was surprised he was not in ODI squad too. Pucvoski was concussed by Siraj If I am not wrong with a nasty bumper. Now Saini is comfortably better than likes of Nattu & Shardul or any other we have at present. Saini has different skill set than others. He lacks too much lateral movement but hits the deck Hard & can be used like Kiwis use Wagner although Saini will be quicker than Wagner. Saini will be a big threat to Australia in Gabba.. That & Perth are the only two places in Planet where Saini can unleash his full potential. Tailor made pitches for him. vishalvirsingh and rollingstoned 1 1

I am saying including a bowler who wasnt part of an original team and replacing with the one who was originally chosen leaves the TM with a lot of explanation. This is not a comfortable position, when compared to choosing someone from the existing team. express bowling 1

Due to corona related restrictions not easy to fly in players and replace at will, so they probably made him part of the squad. No way is he ready yet to don white jersey, but staying with the squad for so long will have other benefits for a rookie like him, a nice learning experience. Real McCoy and vishalvirsingh 1 1

He gets far more chances than many other domestic pacers who have better or similar bowling averages and are quicker OR taller than him or both. ShoonyaSifar Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 So two deserving pacers making their debut this series. Next pacer to debut in Tests for us has to be Sandeep Warrier. Had a wonderful FC season last year, played for India A in NZ, did fairly okay and could have been closer to a national selection this year if FC cricket was played.

By all logic they had no idea two of them would be injured by day 3 2nd test. they picked Tyagi Porel as net bowlers. Porel left due to injury. all remained were Natarajan , Shardul and Tyagi as Chahar from ODI s had been sent back home. So the question of selecting Avesh and Prasidh does not even hold ground.. sandeep 1
