I am not comparing Australian teams. I am talking specifically about Indian teams. If India had lost its premier bowler they would get mentally shot and loose. I remember the England tour when we lost Zak and the team folded 5-0. If you don’t agree the current team is mentally stronger than the fab4 that on you. I have seen Melbourne, Sydney  and Brisbane. I have seen it on three occasions they have proved they are stronger. Everyone in the understands their role and they do their job.

First u told fav 4 didn’t win test series in aus that’s why I given u smith vs martyn & langer example. During fab 4 time india don’t have luxury in bowling.

2 u given examples of eng tour 2011 where we lost 4-0 because they were mentally short but u forget to tell main things , in 2011 eng tour sachin, dravid, vvs& sehwag all were in there last leg.

I don't know where this comparision with fab 4 even starts. This is a joke. We have lost the most away tours in this last decade or so when both kohli and pujara (2011-2020) were playing supposedly at their youngest peak of their careers. (Don't bring home records here. We're always supposed to win at home. No excuses.)There are quite a numbers tours where both of them have abysmally disappeared. for ex kohli had a grand total of 38 runs in NZ(2020) and 136 in England 2014.

Our best result in the last decade is hands down the border gavaskar trophy that just finished and the main batters were rahane with his 100 in MCG, Rishabh pant with his blistering attacks in sydney and brisbane and shubman gill for his 90 in the last test.  Bowlers were carrying the team. It's a blessing in disguise that kohli leaving actually helped the team.

Get some perspective, people. Forget fab 4 we don't even have fab 2.

With that being said, i am confident of this new generation where we have shubman gill and rishabh pant for overseas batting. This decade should belong to them. We need to build the test team around these two and the bowlers.

The biggest letdown was our batting in foreign tours not bowling during fab4 tours. When we batted well we won the series.

We batted well in aus 2004, eng 2002 , did we win those series, no because we don’t had bowler who take 20 wickets regularly ( not 1 time in series.)

That sl team was something else they have goat player for sl condition. Heck even that zim was much better than today's sl, ei and bd team. Even Kohli goat team handled their back against mediocre sl chasing 165.

2015 SL was good man, till 2016 they were quite competitive, anyway we would have won T1 if we had DRS. Chandimal was out 3-4 times in that innings.

I remember they requested sangakara to stay for that series and not to retire  and definitely Herath other than that it's like same bunch but no where near to team against whom we lost series during sehwag time.

Exactly Kohli is still better but I have already seen overhyping of Pujara after aus series. he is good but he is no where near to top 8-9 test batsmen for india in overseas condition. In aus 2018 he was dominanat that's it but this series victory should be more of a team performance but looks like Pujara and kohli are getting lots of hyping.  Pujar is damn mediocre in any othe foreign contry not name aus. Be it sa, NZ, eng or WI. I will pick only Kohli from current team to boost our batting during fab 4 time and as an keeper Pant even though he played limited cricket but as he is keeper and we dint have better keeper than him in overseas condition.

wrong. home record matters. not every team dominates at home like india. we dint win 29 games out of 32 at home in 2000 era. It does matter and it should be commended.

india in 2000 era collapsed vs new zealand several times as well and we beat n.z away when they had styris and some other fodder leading the team. It was a joke bowling lineup. even in 2011 draw vs south africa they had tsotsobe playing in the team along with paul harris.

we are not always supposed to win at home. We dint always win at home before. we won most but dint dominate like we did under kohli.

even now only india has an astonishingly strong record at home and are competent away. we actually won the same number of games away as we did in 2000 era if you include SENA tours.

also back in 2000 era india always prioritized tests first. tests were played first in general. Makes a humongous difference. India played 4 tour games before the offical test series vs england. Way easier to get acclimated to those conditions. This current team wrecked australia after playing just 2 pink ball practice games. Guarantee this current side would beat england aaway if they played a couple of tour games in english condtions rather than playing odi and t20 before a major test series.

This is something thats extremely hard for dimwitted paks to understand which i cant seem to fathom why. Actually I do understand why. they are the paks. But i am surprised even indians are questioning our performances based on how we have prepared.

same with n.z. You know what we played before a test series?

Ipl

after that it was a 5 match t20 followed by 3 odi games prior to a major test series. we were under prepared for RED ball cricket and lost. We are a better team obviously but we dint take the tests seriously judging by our intensity levels vs australia. n.z is no where near as good as australia currently or ever.

Current batting line up will become strong once they play regularly with Pant-Jaddu-Ashwin.

Rahane already better than Ganguly.

Pant-Jaddu-Ashwin may turn out to be better than Laxman-Dhoni-Tail combined over next 5 years. of

Opening of Mayank+Rohit+Gill have potential to better than Sehwag + random openers outside subcontinent. So whatever gap is created by Dravid + SRT v Pujara + Kohli will be covered by top + lower order.

Will wait for next 5 years to see whether this line up crosses fab 4.

rohit is 34

jaddu 34 ?

ashwin 34

we will need replacements after 2 years roughly. we do have firepower but i wonder who will replace the legendary ashwin and jaddu. I am sure india has someone up their sleeve. sundar can get to jadeja's level.

with jadeja's fitness level however, i fully expect him to be quality till about 37 or 38 ish.

Then how come we didn't win all the time at home in 2000s?

We won out only 11 out 17 test series in 2000s. Drawn 4 series, lost 2.

Played 47 matches and won only 21 - less than 50%. Lost 8 matches.

Since 2013, India has won 28 out of 34 matches, lost 1 and drawn 5 games. By the time India plays 47 games.

Played 12 series and won 12.

Home batting averages for Indian team

Batting average at home in 2000s - 40.22

Batting average at home from 2003-2012 (what I consider as easiest/flattest era for batting) - 41.23

Batting average at home (from 2013 onwards) - 45.69

Away batting averages

From 2003-2012 - 36.42

From 2013 onwards - 31.96

That's hardly surprising considering kinds of tracks and bowling current team has to face in most of away series.

Yes but whatever test record Ishant ends up with he will still be remembered for two things.. the unworldly scare he gave to Ponting before getting him out in Perth 2008 and his two matchturning and headscratching consecutive balls with which he got Ravi Bopara and freaking Eoin Morgans ( still cant believe it!) wickets and won us the 2013 Champions Trophy..
